one of the most absolutely awesome things about Luke and Reid is that, considering they originally met under conditions where Luke blackmailed Reid, and Reid acted like a total ass to him for quite a while, neither of them is suffering under any delusions about the person they are with. When Reid says he loves Luke, he really means LUKE, and not some idealized version of Luke he invented in his head. The reverse is true, too -- Luke is in love with REID, the good and the bad, with no delusions about him being someone he isn't.

THIS X INFINITY. They loved each other for who they truly were. Noah never loved Luke for who he was, and at the end it wasn't like he realized the error of his ways or anything. He just wanted Luke back and then the same things would happen again and again ad nauseum. They were so wrong for each other.

Which? The fight between Luke and Noah? Or the fight between Luke and Reid? (I love, love, love Luke's adorable face at the end of the fight with Reid when he's like, "I can see how it wouldn't be....")

Hehe, great recap. That was a GREAT fight! I love how they've managed to have a relationship where they are perfectly capable of disagreeing, but do it all without BLAMING EACH OTHER FOR EVERY TINY LITTLE THING THAT IS EITHER A MADE UP PROBLEM OR WOULDN'T REALLY MATTER IF YOU WEREN'T A DOUCHE *cough*Noah*cough*.

But surely the key to a healthy relationship is a constant state of back and forth, of constantly questioning your partner's motives and making them doubt themselves and whether or not they are good enough for you and making them feel like they have to behave in a way that is entirely suited to your own standards or you will never love them?! Surely THAT is the only way that two people can ever be happy?!

Yes, THIS. This is why I love Luke and Reid so much. They love each other with eyes wide open, flaws and all.

Noah was so often disappointed that Luke wasn't this idealized version of "the guy he fell in love with," that only existed in Noah's head.

Noah never loved Luke for who he was, and at the end it wasn't like he realized the error of his ways or anything. He just wanted Luke back and then the same things would happen again and again ad nauseum.

Never, never, never. He loved some ideal of a person who had never existed anywhere except inside his tiny little mind, and he resented Luke and punished him every time Luke failed to be this warped little "ideal" he had invented. Such a sick, toxic relationship!

(To be fair, it kind of goes both ways, because Luke had turned Noah into some kind of ideal. The difference is, anytime Noah failed to be Luke's ideal, Luke almost always seemed to somehow convince himself that Noah was that ideal anyway, and that any shortcomings were his own. The boy has serious self-esteem issues!)
