Part Twenty-Three: "Memorial has an incredible transplant program."
Sheesh, don't remind us, Lily! Oakdale and its damn transplants.
Anyway, we're coming into the home stretch, friends! Well, the home stretch before Van Hansis takes over the role of Luke and brings a whole crapload of awesome to Oakdale. In the meantime, Luke's kidneys have started to fail. In scenes apparently not on the interwebs, at least not that we could find, Luke boards Lucinda's plane, drinks himself into a stupor, and ends up in Mexico. While there, he picks up some kind of nasty kidney-eating bacteria that destroys both of his kidneys. Poor Luke! He has the worst luck!
Lily's not a match to donate, and things are looking grim as Luke begins hallucinating. Holden assures Luke that he'll be okay and that he'll be home at the farm for Thanksgiving to cut the hubbard squash. Well, if that's not something to live for, I don't know what is!
Keith, classy guy that he is, forces Lily to agree to marry him in exchange for a perfectly matched kidney for Luke. (Who needs UNOS when you've got the black market!)
