And it started so well- granddad and Flavius got up at half past six, while Cassian slept until seven straight. Even then he did not go down to meet his brother but insisted on watching a short Christmas video. He is not picky, loves all topics, from baking to crafting to decorating. The younger of the two must have noticed footfalls in the bedroom and was up in next to no time, and the troubles began. Flavius was ill-tempered, very much so. Did provoke his brother, did provoke hubby. Tried it with me, too. I was so very glad when I finally was able to depose hubby and grandsons at one of the most beautiful Christkindl markets we have- the one at Hellbrunn Palace. Hubby told me later that even there the boy would not behave. I picked them up around eleven thirty, hoping that Flavius might fall asleep in the car and wake in better spirits, because hubby had invited the boys´ parents for lunch, so there was more cooking than usual to do. That´s so idiotic, but that´s also so hubby- as if the ruckus from yesterday would not have been enough for the next week! Now there was cooking to do, next to a boy getting even more furious with each passing minute. When Flavius started to take the Christmas lanterns apart in a bout of fury I got loud, really loud and sent hubby and the youngster to the guestroom. Maybe a real nap was in order. No, it wasn´t. The boy slept an hour maybe, time enough for the rest of us to have lunch, then was back as irate as before. But instead of packing up the family stayed all afternoon and only left, when dusk set in. Now it was I who was livid, because, ill-humoured or not, the boy followed me, and me only, all the time and everywhere. Maybe because I showed more patience than the rest of the family...
When family number two was finally off to put up their Christmas tree I carried our advent wreath to the living room- the one for adults, the children´s one I had lighted around midday, at least till Flavius started to manipulate the candles- lighted three candles and turned Transsiberian Orchestra on. I am still listening to Christmas and Other Stories. I love this music, but I can do without Mariah Carey and the like!
I saw some snow flakes today between ten and eleven o´clock in the morning, then rain set in again. Not that it is warm- we have two degrees only, but this winter must be the winter when two degrees means rain instead of snow. From now on it will get warmer anyway, just as every year around Christmas. At least I will be more inclined to do last garden preparations, like installing the new bird feeders I bought and finally putting those horrific old plastic pots into trash bags, to bring them to the dumpsite, preferably before Christmas. Of course, we will have to buy new ones next gardening season, so husband dearest will do his best to avoid this undertaking...
