tbh, though, this is probably my favorite moment in the whole fic:

"I picked the color," Evan said, grinning at her. His smile faded when Penny elbowed him. "What? I did."
April laughed and stood on her toes to kiss his cheek. "I love the color, thank you."
Evan beamed and nudged Penny with his arm. "See? She loves the color."

Never has a breather like that been more necessary or so well pulled off. It's just so heart-warmingly domestic and sweet and true to life, and ahhhh it was nice to snort with laughter in the middle of this.

Hee! That's kind of exactly what I was going for, to intersperse a bit of levity in with all of the angst, which, obvs, there was a lot of. And Evan's just so damn adorable XD

This fic was really hard for me to write, so I'm always so pleased to know that people like it ♥

UM HAVE I TOLD YOU HOW MUCH I LOVE SIMON AND APRIL??

BECAUSE I DO.Ohhhh poor April. (I feel as though I'm always saying either poor April or poor Simon, lol) I loved getting this backstory on her and I love how you put it with such an important time in her life, where she's doing much better than she was at fourteen

April and Simon are both very much alike in that they keep their problems to themselves, thinking they'll go away or fix themselves on their own, but they're also smart enough to know when they do actually need to talk about things. I think after April's dad showed up, everything was sort of dragged out into the open, and she recognized the fact that she needed to talk to Simon about it.

Simon and April both constantly need reassurance from the other that the they are loved, but they're also more than happy to provide that for the other when they need it

Oh. FEELINGS. SO MANY FEELINGS. THEY'RE ALL LIKE A BIG FAMILY.

Firstly, SIMON/APRIL ALL OVER THE PLACE AND I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. I can't even pick a favourite quote from this one because I loved all their moments so much.

Also, APRIL APRIL APRIL. It's quite difficult to put into words how much I love her, because she's such a well-constructed, all-round character. She's so strong and intelligent but at times you can still see the little vulnerable side to her, and I love that.

This bit: She had just reached the sidewalk in front of Nathan's house when she heard footsteps behind her and somebody saying her name.
I actually said "oh, no" out loud and was almost physically biting my nails. Srsly. I got really into it, lol.

Garrett's eyes flickered to look at Nathan. "And who are you?"
"More of a father to her than you've ever been."

THEY'RE ALL LIKE A BIG FAMILY.
YES, that's exactly what I was trying to get across with this one, that April came from this crappy home, and never really had a proper family, but that she really has that now, she has all of these people who genuinely love and care for her. They're not her blood family, but they're just as good as, and really almost better.

she's such a well-constructed, all-round character
I love hearing this about April, just because there's always that worry (like we've talked about) that I've made her too perfect or whatever, so I really like hearing that people think she's a good character.

I got really into it

THIS IS EVAN'S MAIN PURPOSE IN LIFE, TO BE AS ADORABLE AS HE POSSIBLY CAN WHILE CAUSING ONLY MINIMAL DAMAGE. Penny has built up an immunity, but sometimes he catches her off guard... XD

Man, I was crying my eyes out (in a good way though) when April got so much love and support from everyone. *wibbles* And I love that she was also strong on her own, no one had to actually rescue her, just help her and support her and love her, it was perfect! ♥ And the flashback, gah, so well-written!

It might be my favorite chapter so far, and not only because it hits close to home for me, it's just great! Like, The last April/Simon scene - I didn't think they could get any more adorable, and I've probably said that about their scenes before. xD And April/Penny friendship is wonderful. ♥

Forever one of my favorite things is the relationship between all of these characters, they are really such a family and I love writing that so much.
