For some reason, I forgot to mark down the day I started going water only... I think it was four or five days ago. Using baking soda and/or vinegar would defeat the purpose for me (I'm not doing it for health, environmental, or monetary reasons) and may even extend the transition period.
I have been a bit surprised how well it is going for my body, but I suspect that is only because I wash every day and use mineral salts deodorant (if I can overcome the hair transition period, I will experiment with no deodorant, but I suspect that will not work).
Most of my skin has been clearing up, particularly around the face. However since I normally soaped and shampooed only every 4-5 days with no facial washing it may simply be the fact that I am giving attention to my hygiene much more than a function of whether or not it was soap... indeed, I once tried a set of facial cleansing products that kept me nice and clear but only if I used them every single day (and the purpose of the one was just lotion. .. ya know, the thing your own oil can do on its own?).
Having kept various pets including reptiles, birds, and mammals I already know how important it is that their skin is exposed to water, even if the amount they need is different depending on their natural environment. I also know how over soaping/shampooing, if acceptable at all, can cause problems with odor (particularly notorious with ferrets).
My sebhorreic dermatitis on my scalp is much the same but this is also the time of the year it normally gets worse, so time will tell. It is not coming down my forehead as much as I expected. Yet.
Once I've gone through the transition, I will experiment with not showering every day, with baths, without deodorant, and in time it will be seen if general lack of attention (right now I'm very particular about scrubbing, but after time carelessness will slip in, surely) has an effect.
I'm wondering if cutting my hair will shorten the transition...
