I'm going on holidays to America in January/February and have heard about all the woes associated with hard water (I have ridiculously soft lovely water) and am worried about continuing no 'poo on my holiday. I'm also staying with relatives (who I don't know very well) and I don't want them to think I'm really weird!!
Anyone in this community living in Miami, Orlando, New York or near Niagara Falls - do you have hard water and how do you cope with it?
I have a few problems: hard water, travelling (on planes and such), not scaring off relatives and not getting my mixtures taken away by helpful cleaning staff at hotels.
- Hard water
To all the Americans here, how hard is the water in Miami, Orlando, New York and near Niagara Falls?
I had a look at
this map and it looks like Miami, Orlando, New York and water isn't too bad but
this map looks like New York is really bad!!
I know you can use boiled water and rinse with that, but won't you need heaps of water to rinse all your hair with??
2. How do I travel with no 'poo?
I'm not sure about the current regulations about what you're allowed to take on airplanes - can I take BS and ACV around with me on my holiday? Or do I need to buy a new lot every week or two after I fly to another part of America on my holiday? Where can I buy my ACV and BS? Can I at least take some tea tree oil with me?
3. How do I keep no 'poo a secret yet safe?
I know you'll all say "no 'poo shouldn't be something you're defensive about, you should be open to your relatives" but that's not what I need right now. My immediate family are amused by my no 'poo antics and are mostly supportive - it's my extended family who I haven't seen in six years that I want to impress and not scare away! (I might even tell them about no 'poo, I just don't want it interfering with their lives while we stay in their house!!)
I need to know how I can mix up my solutions, take my solutions around the country (see previous question) and not scare off my relatives. I'm also staying in a hotel for some of the time and I don't want to get my mixtures taken away helpfully by the cleaning staff who think it's rubbish or something!!
I might also be swimming in chlorine pools but I think it's been established that you should thoroughly wet your hair with clean water and then wear a swimming cap (optional) and rinse with vinegar after swimming.
Also, while I'm in America, should I buy any Dr Bronners or Burt's Bees or any other products? Lots of people seem to love them and I don't think I can get them in Australia.
I'm not leaving for two months, so I've got plenty of time to alter my routine and experiment with new ideas before throwing myself in the deep end.
