My hair hasn't become fried from no-poo, but it has gotten staticy. It has always been like that though, unless I had conditioner in it. And, a few days after the conditioner would wear off, my hair would get staticky again.
Yesterday I tried just a WEE bit of EVOO in my hair, only at the tips, and it seems to have helped. I put just a couple drops of EVOO in my palms, rubbed them together, and smoothed them over the ends of my hair. Then I brushed my hair with my boar bristle brush to help spread the oil around even more.
You can also try increasing the amount of vinegar in your rinse, to see if helps with the static and knotting. If you do that, make sure you're only putting it on the ends of your hair, because it can make your scalp get greasy faster. I have heard people go up to two or three tablespoons in their 1 cup of water. You could also try letting the vinegar sit on your hair a little longer.
If your hair is being fried, you might be using too much BS, or leaving it in for too long. I'd say don't leave it in for more than 5 minutes. And, if you aren't... try halving the recipe, and if that doesn't work, try halving just the BS, but still using 1 cup of water.
5 minutes?!? That would totally fry my hair. I used to put it on, scub my scalp as quick as possible then rinse it out right away. It would be there less than a munute. Leave the ACV on as long as you want.
I'd halve the BS, but keep the same amount of water, or double the water, either way.
I went ACV only for 5 weeks, and found the vinegar (1.5 T vinegar to 1c water)cut the grease, without the need for BS which can make your hair coarser if you use too much.
I'm now doing water only with no problems.
The time I super-oiled my hair, I left it alone and my hair just sucked it all up and wasn't greasy any more.
I was wondering if I should Halve the BS. Maybe I'll try to EVOO.. I'll just make sure I only use a few drops though.. I don't want another coconut oil experience. lol
ACV and the occassional 50/50 white vinegar and water mix, if I was feeling flakey. Then I cut that down to every three or four days, with water only in between, then I noticed that my hair wasn't really geting greasy enough to bother with the acv, so I went water-only as an experiment. 17 days later it's still working just fine, even if I've used my usual spiking gel. It's supposed to be water-resistant, but washes out just fine with warm water. I occassionally feel a bit greasy, but it's fine after rinsing and scrubbing my scalp with my fingers. I actually find I get greasier when I don't put any product in my hair. I tend run my hands through it lots when it's clean, so it gets greasy.
You never get that squeaky clean feeling with ACV or water-only, but my hair is really happy. I now associate the "squeakies" with having stripped all the good stuff out of my hair.
My hair is still pretty short (it isn't 3 inches yet), so I don't know how well it will work when it's longer, but it feels really good at the moment.

So you switched over to ACV only at first... and then slowly went to water only?
Do you think your hair is a lot healthier now?
