Today was very interesting. I woke up at about 5 in the morning nauseous. I threw up at 7 and was on my way to the village by 9. I felt better by 10 or so...when we got to the village. We went door to door and took everyone´s blood pressure. The most exciting thing that we did today was that we went to the Opus Dei Hacienda in Toshi (the village). In the middle of some of the poorest area I have ever seen is this big hacienda that has a 15 foot wall around it. Inside it is so beautiful! It was built in the 1800´s and much of the inside is still original. The people that are staying there, however, are a bit different. They gave us a tour of the whole place and, as nice as they are, you can tell that they are trying to sell you their religion. They imply the whole time that if you were in Opus Dei you could live in this beautiful place and have wonderful sports facilities, etc etc etc. In my previous post when I mentioned that the Opus Dei were prevalent in Toshi, I had no idea. They basically run the whole village and are very, very prominent in Mexico City. All of them have been very nice and gracious, though.
On our way home from Toshi, the storm of the century hit. And didn´t I feel safe with 6 people squashed in a mid-90´s Nissan Sentra. The streets were already starting to have small rivers going across them, and I swear, we were praying to get home in one piece.
Then we ate some more of the best food you can imagine. Dinner consisted of garlic toast with Bruschetta cheese, salad with grapes and lettuce and a very good sauce, cabbage and potato soup, carmelized carrots with sweet onions, and small ravioli type things that were made with spinach and filled with cheese. Coffee came afterwards. Yea, my dinner was better than yours.
I miss Bryan so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My cats won´t eat because I am gone. =(
It´s only 5 pesos for an hour of computer time. That´s about $.50.
