Cradling Faith carefully to my chest, I made my way back to the house. I could hear the others arguing behind me, trying to convince Connor not go to after this vampire. It wasn’t on our terms, he told me. Well my dear fellow, then we *make* it our terms again. We were all lost, far to lost to fight this creature. Angel was lost, Connor was lost. Faith and I had just gotten back from dead and were still trying to find our footing. How odd was it to realize that Illryia was the most stable one of us.

Oh we’d get this Kakistos or whatever it’s name is. My blood was boiling when I looked down and saw what he’d done to Faith. Mine. He wasn’t going to get away with that. But being in Limbo had taught me a few things. I was once like Connor after Fred got killed. I killed people, stabbed my best friend, shot people for not doing what I told them. It would’ve been hypocrital to talk to Connor as though I had no idea how he felt. I did know. I remembered that feeling, I never forgot.

There were other things at stake now though. We needed to regroup, I needed to get Faith to a safe place and take care of her. Pausing, I shifted her in my arms and brushed a lock of hair behind her ear. A small smile played on the corners of my mouth, as I imagined her voice. “Fuck Wes, I’m a Slayer. I’m not gonna break.” Which would be followed by that eye roll of hers after which she’d push me away. Only that last part was something we’d be past by now. I guess only time will tell.

I heard the others behind me, far behind us. I’ve no idea what they did, or Connor did I guess, and at the moment I don’t care. Tara and Spike’s house was getting closer and I quickened my pace. Shouldering the door open when I got there, I moved into the living room where Spike had been on the sofa after Angel had…knocked him out. I closed the door behind me with my foot and then lowered her gently to the sofa. The bathroom was nearby thank heavens and I quickly returned with some water and a cloth. I’m guessing a first aid kit would be quiet useful as well.

“Faith?” I murmured, brushing the cool, wet cloth over her face. “I’d appreciate it very much if you’d wake up now, please. I’d rather not worry myself to death, I’ve only just gotten back to the land of the living.”
