Quick 'n' dirty fan casting for a few of my favorite m/m erotic novels

...because rivers_bend asked, and who am I not to answer?

OKAY. Thanks to the power of twitter to transmit one fangirl's "OMG THIS BOOK IS SO HOT" into a veritable wave of downloads and a (still tiny but give it time) fandom growing around a brand new canon, I now have a favorite author of original m/m fiction. Her name is K.J. Charles, and she writes consistently awesome stuff in the historical and/or fantasy genre. Her combo of sharp dialogue, fast-paced storytelling, complex and intriguing characterization, deeply compelling protagonists, chilling horror and LOL-worthy humor, and so-vivid-it's-practically-cinematic narration is... WELL. I'm smitten, and I'm also in love with the way she writes guys falling in love.

And because her novels haven't YET been turned into high-budget premium cable shows nor super successful movie serials, I gotta do some mental casting when I read. So here it is!

THE MAGPIE SERIES
(author's summary of the first book for a bit of context)

Stephen Day = Jamie Bell BECAUSE:

He looks good as a redhead...

...and also gives a good STERN AND KINDA JUDGEY FACE...

...and looks good when scruffy from fighting magical battles against evil and such...

...and also looks pretty amazing whilst shirtless and ravished-looking
(hey, it's m/m romance, shirtlessness is an important criterium okay)

ETA because I kinda forgot how much Esca in The Eagle could serve as an audition for Stephen, what with all the intensity and the skill and the "Your people ruined my family and I hate everything you stand for and oops how did we become BFFs and why do I suddenly love youuuuu" thing going on:

...NUFF SAID.

Lucien Crane = J.J. Feild BECAUSE
not just that they're both in Turn on AMC together, but, well, that might have been part of my ~inspiration

He's VERY good at the regal-insolent-worldly-badass look...

...and in period drama costume...

...and damn, that's just a GREAT FACE okay...

...and I can't believe the internetz have failed to provide me with shirtless pics not taken by creepy creepy paps (which I refuse to include), so have a side-eye gif instead. And take my word for it - physically speaking, he'd do GREAT JUSTICE to Crane and his magpies. Mmmmhmmmm.

ETA thank youuuuuuuu, Tumblr:

(...told ya.)

THINK OF ENGLAND

(in case you need something BEYOND THAT PERFECT TITLE, here's author's summary of the novel)

Archie Curtis = James Norton BECAUSE:

He can totally do broody & sad & out of touch with his own life while handsome, sigh...

...SIIIIIIGH...

He looks good in uniform...

...and good yet somewhat fumbly in period drama outfits...

...and rather impressive while (mostly) shirtless, which is TOTALLY IMPORTANT for the CHARACTER.

(I feel strongly about this, so have another pic.)
(And if you're not watching Grantchester, well. You're missing out in a FEW ways.)

Daniel da Silva = ...
here's the thing: someone somewhere cast Theo James in the role just as I was starting the book; and it's not that I don't see it (I very easily do):

...but my mind kept wandering even as I tried to picture him as the character... until I finally realized that someone else works WAY BETTER in my brain. SO.

Daniel da Silva = Ezra Miller BECAUSE:

He looks superb in velvet...

...he is SERIOUSLY SHARP in a way that can totally come across as possibly villainous*...
*and omg, I love that in a character

...he looks fantastic in formal wear...

...and unspeakably hot in, uh, less formal/utterly debauched wear.

(Just in case you need further imagery to picture the nipple piercing. Ahem.)

And he's the kind of brilliant!pretty that could break your heart with sheer vulnerability. SOB.

***BONUS CASTING***

Jenna Coleman = Fen:

Ruth Wilson = Pat:

AND THERE YOU HAVE IT. If you've read the books, please share your casting! And if you haven't, well, better bookmark this post so you can come back after you've read them and hopefully fallen in love with them and TELL ME YOUR THOUGHTS THEN. :D
