Moi j'adore qu'on me dévore

I now have my grubby little hands on Nomades by Guesch Patti, and its single "L' Homme Au Tablier Vert" (which totally deserves to be on the Master's playlist) - yay! Ah, early '90s French rock. Is there anything better?

I haven't written about Pushing Daisies this week, mostly because this was the first time I had a negative response to something on the show. Perhaps predictably, it was the scene of the plane smashing into the side of the building. Not to be a sensitive little NY-resident flower, but... I'm sure that for many years to come, this kind image just won't be able to work for me outside the 9/11 context. The association is still immediate, still intense, and it completely threw me out of the narrative and its (suddenly very inappropriate) tone.

Most fairytales are stories of fear and horror, wrapped in heroic plots and softened by comforting victories and miraculous healing and happy endings. But this sort of event is too real to me, and its echo too powerful in my viewing experience of similar scenes; therefore, any narrative that even looks like an attempt to fictionalize it - to soften such a blow by weaving a brightly colored story around it - will be a failure in my eyes. It's too soon. Just... give it a generation or so and try again later, when reality of experience doesn't trump the fiction.

I loved the rest, though. Still watching and still loving it.

A few thoughts on SPN, "Sin City": anyone else think of Good Omens during the bartender chick's speech about good vs. evil on Earth? It amuses me to think about Crowley and Dean comparing cars, and Aziraphale and Sam talking books. Heh.

Also, Ruby is either 1. a demon trying to usurp power from Lucifer, 2. a demon killing off the unruly competition and working for Lucifer, or 3. my favorite option, Lucifer herself. You know that would be really cool. Alas, most likely too cool for this show.

I have yet to sit down and write a review of Stoppard's Rock 'N' Roll (I saw the Broadway production in previews last weekend), but that - and many other things - will have to wait because, alas, I woke up this morning with a BAAAAAD head cold. No wonder my left eye kept hurting and watering violently last night; I had to spend most of today nicely medicated and shielding myself from light, which really fucking hurts my sinuses right now. Ouch. To all the fabulous people I met last night, my most sincere apologies if I passed it on.

I might just have to call in sick tomorrow and... I don't know, spend the day watching shows with John Simm in them. If that doesn't make me feel better, I don't know what will.
