Since the power is out in one half of our pad. Today Dave had a nice long conversation with our hard of hearing 95 year old lady next door neighbor and land lord. she invited him inside and she talked nonstop about how our building was built by her husbands brother back in 1928, and that she's from Lebanon and moved here when she was 17 and couldn't speak any english, and that she has lived in this building since she moved to america. She also said that her husband tricked her into marring him and that she thought America was going to be like heaven but turned out to be hell, she moved here at the very beginning of the great depression. She said that there was a fire in our house in the kitchen once a long while ago when she lived in our side of the flat. The place next door was a bakery or something and burned down and almost made our building go up in smoke too. The firemen came pounded on her doors and broke in while she was sleeping she didn't know what the hell was going on and it scared the bejesus out of her. She also said that we can have all the fun and parties and 23 skidoo that we want, just don't let people throw cigarette butts all over the back porch and starting a fire. She also talked a great deal about how young folks these day don't want to work they just want things given to them. She talked about how her husbands brother worked in a coal mine in Lebanon for 50 cents a day till he could afford to move here and build this building. And young people these days are so violent that's when she sadly talked about how her son got shot working in the old general store underneath our flat. She talked talked talked and kept Dave there for an hour. Anyways She said the powers not going to be coming back on for 4 more days. That Bitch!!
