May 12, 2011 08:36

[To those who know her, or those attuned to it, Ami's voice seems to be struggling with its composure. The reason isn't evident at first; it's a straightforward question of the sort making the rounds lately.]I've been speaking with Hermione about magic in different worlds. We wondered who comes from worlds where magic power is hereditary, or from ( Read more... )

I suppose you could call magic hereditary in my world.

I'm sorry if this is assuming too much, but, if you say it like that, it sounds a little like it's hereditary in some cases and not others. Is that true?

How would you define hereditary?

Passed down from parent to child, through genetics.

No magic on mine. Used to be faith worked pretty good, but...not so much in recent years.

Do you think of faith and magic as the same thing? [Since he did just bring them up together.]

No. I think for magic, you have to actively utilize it like any weapon.

Faith? It's a belief so strong that the belief itself lends the power or protection. It's...like a beacon for a higher power to work through.

I'm not always good at having that sort of faith. But I have a friend who'd understand what you mean.

[Any belief Ami has is because Usagi believes.]

One of your housemates, right? [She'd been over there, once.]

She was. She was someone I knew at home. She was a very famous singing idol in my world, actually; I was surprised to be able to get to know her. I'm sure the Minako-chan who was here will go far, too.

You talk like she's a different person.

In a way, she is, sort of. She was still Aino Minako and our worlds shared many things, but they were very slightly different. An alternate world.

The magic in my world is all fiction, as far as I know.

Do you suppose it could just be hidden instead?

Oh, I don't know either way. It's nice to think that it might be--but if it is, I've never seen any reason to believe it exists.

I'm sort of the same. It's hard without proof. Even here, it seems sort of unbelievable, but we know it's true.

fdgf i'm so sorry ah voicesreason May 12 2011, 01:59:54 UTC
I'm becoming more curious if there's some semblance between worlds with similar acts of magic, as well. Although, it's quite possible that magic won't be linear to any other world, as well.

[Frowning just slightly on her end.]

I take it she was a friend of yours?

Such as, one world where all of it is ritual magic, and one where it is all innate?

[She almost ignores the mention of Minako, but eventually she answers.]

She was. Back home, too.

That, but also if the magic is inherited does that also reflect on the type of magic performed? Or if it isn't inherited are the mannerisms of it differentiated?

[She takes a breath, uncertain of what to say knowing condolences won't work so... For once she'll let it drop.]

[Distracting herself by focusing on the magic questions, however, is definitely working.]

I see. [So, if she had a daughter, would that daughter inherit the power of planet Mercury?]

In your world, does there seem to be a connection?
