Begin Again; an AU endingkdbleuJune 20 2012, 20:41:22 UTC
Kara goes out by herself to watch as the Galactica and Sam fly into the Earth’s sun. She squints into the brightness, like she’s never felt light on her face, until she can blame the tears in her eyes on the overwhelming glare.
She stays until after she the sunsets. After she’s said her silent prayers. Then she goes to find Lee. He’s alone on the edge of the encampment surveying the endless open land, while everyone else sits around the fire sharing stories of the day. His shoulders slump, and it hits her all at once how much she hurts him. The thought twists through her mind and across her face. She needs to fix it.
Silently she walks up and buries her face in the crook of Lee’s neck. He’s stiff. His back stays straight. His hands hover over her back without touching. Kara isn’t surprised, but she doesn’t move. Nothing has gone right in so long, she can’t remember. Even finding this lush green planet seems wrong so Kara closes her eyes, leans her head against Lee’s shoulder and pretends this is a proper hug. She breathes in the new smell of him, fresh and sweaty from work and fresh air.
Lee begins to melt around her, accepting her once more. His arms enclose her against his chest. Lee relaxes pulling Kara along with him, until the connection is real and true. It’s far from the first time they’ve hugged, but it’s the first time here, under these stars.
With a quiet smile Kara finally rolls out of Lee’s embrace and laces her fingers through his. “Walk you home?” she asks.

Awwww, Kate. It's so sweet and tender and I love Kara's unexpected resolve to show Lee how she feels and to try to begin again. It's just lovely. *happy sigh*

I love that she realizes he is hurt and goes to him. That he tries to resist, but can't really say no to her and they walk home together. So sweet and tender. :)

Pilothugs are always special, and I love that you wrote them another one )which they totally should have had, even if she was going to poof - I get why Lee pulled back from touching her, but at the same time I really, REALLY wish they'd hugged) :(

“Sure,” he nods. “Anytime.”
“Good.”
“Yeah, it is. It is.”

Pilot hugs are the best, poof or no poof. Although here there's no poofing. ;)
