Well, the last 3 games of my first Nationals are now available for perusal on cross-tables. I decided I had had enough of drawing badly, and I was going to go 3-0 on the last day, and sure enough I accomplished that, salvaging my record and finishing in 13th place. Not where I was hoping to be after the end of Day 3, but all in all it was a successful tournament, considering my inexperience.
What really helped going into that last day was playing in the tag-team tournament the night before, and winning D1 for North Carolina with
badqoph. I got to play against Joe Edley for the first time there, and in our game he opened with DEWCLAW, forget if it was natural or not unfortunately. Ryan talked me out of HEPTARC(H) for a 2x2, but we still bagged Jason and Pete by enough to win handily in that game. It was a great, lively, atmosphere, lots of good-hearted trash talking. It took me out of the doldrums of Day 4, that's for sure.
I'm looking forward to Nationals next July, to see everyone again and have . There are even (very) tentative plans to hold BC (that's Boggle Convention) '13 concurrent with the NSC. I haven't been to one yet, but BC's are basically an excuse for us competitive Bogglers to get together, drink a lot, hang out and play word games. Some of us are Scrabblers, but quite a few don't have any interest in the crossword game genre, or just want to play on ISC only. Anyway, worlds colliding and all that, should be a blast.
In less than 2 weeks it's another Collins tourney! Yay! Katya Lezin is holding a Thanksgiving Scrabble get-together, and we actually got enough interest to put together a small Collins division. It'll be me,
winterene,
ar_raqis, and,
badqoph, the latter making his Collins debut. We'll be playing 8 games at Katya's followed by 4 more at Ryan's, for a total of 12 games in one day. It should be good competition and fun times. After that it's the charity tournament in January, while the rest of the Scrabble world is in New Orleans. Then the EC in February. That should be a great time too, plus Katie (again, very tentatively) will be preparing a small box of homemade truffles for each player that attends. You want chocolate, don't you?
