Day 4 annotated games are now up on cross-tables,
http://www.cross-tables.com/anno.php?p=20072 Well, it sucked going through those games again. During the 7 game losing streak, I had a shot to win 3 of them. The Bowman game, I missed an opening bingo, a 4v7 that's Collins only. That's probably the difference there. The
olaughgame, I made a questionable decision on where to play my bingo and it backfired spectacularly. It still might not have been enough, who knows. The DeMello game I just played like crap and tossed tons of points down the drain, but I think that was due to my awful psychological state at the time.
I'm not normally superstitious, but those of you who have seen me at tournaments probably notice I wear this blue buttoned-down shirt all the time. Katie got it for me when we were dating in college (10 years ago at this point). It's become sort of a Scrabble talisman for me, ever since I wore it at my first multi-day tournament and won. Well I wore this shirt the first 3 days of Nationals, and I was in the top 5 most of the time, never leaving the top 10. Then I forgot to wear it on Day 4, and well you see what happened. I don't always win with it on, and I've won tournaments without wearing it (2012 Charlotte Park tourney), and as a scientist I know it's all bullshit, but I can't help but think if my luck might have been better in those Tuesday games had I just remembered to throw on the shirt. I sure could have used it.
Ah well, live and learn. Only 3 more games to go. We end on a high note at least, including fun food bingoes! Tasty.
