NSC 2012 Day 3

Oct 31, 2012 17:23

Day 3 games are now up on cross-tables.com.  Kind of wish I had kept up with this enough so I could release Day 4 on Halloween, since that was the real horror show, but c'est la vie.  Besides the two Polatnick games, which were just straight baggings that I couldn't do much about, the rest of them were pretty taut affairs that are worth looking through.  Round 16 against Joel Wapnick is especially fun, as you can see a world-class player just get straight bagged and still have a chance to win at the very end.

On another note, I see that Cree and Chew have already booked Buffalo as the site for the 2014 NSC.  It's almost 2 years out, but already it's not looking likely that I'll be attending.  Mind you, that has nothing against the city of Buffalo.  I've never been there, but growing up in Cleveland has given me a soft spot for the old Rust Belt cities I have visited, such as Pittsburgh and Rochester.  Hell, I'm going back to Cleveland for New Year's Eve, where I'll meet up with some old high school friends who have since scattered to Phoenix, Austin, and Pittsburgh.  I'm sure Buffalo has plenty of charm as well, plus WINGZ*.  No, I recently found out that, to celebrate my grandfather's 80th birthday in 2014 (he who is still broadcasting Lafayette football and basketball games on the radio), a gigantic Outer Banks vacation with all my aunts, uncles and cousins is being planned for that summer.  That's likely to eat into whatever vacation time I'd have for Nationals that year.

And now I have to wade through Day 4.  Time to find out if I could have done anything to prevent the implosion.
