SYTYCD Season 9: Top 16/14
Oops I never did a write-up of the Top 16 so this will be combined with the Top 14 that was on last night.
Top 16 Group (Contemp): I thought it was good. Tyce's contemp is always better than his broadway.
George/Tiffany (Hip Hop): So this was a whole routine based on babysitting by Nap/Tabs because she's pregnant. It was kind of corny I thought. I thought she did better than him though.
Amber/Brandon (Jazz): New partners. Kind of sucks because I had a feeling they'd be going home but it was really a pretty good routine.
Janelle/Dareian (Cha Cha): It was cute I guess. Maybe by another set of dancers it would have been better - but we did get to see Pasha! Judges didn't really like it though.
Lindsay/Cole (Contemp): Thought this one was nice - she surprised me. The lighting was pretty cool.
Amelia/Will (Jazz): Not my favorite by them. I really like Will still.
Audrey/Matthew (Salsa: Is it bad I almost forgot about them. It had some neat tricks in it but it was just meh...
Witney/Chehon (Contemp): Danced to "I Will Always Love You" - surprisingly it wasn't super cheesy. Really good - she did much better than I expected too. One of the best of the night.
Eliana/Cyrus (Hip Hop): Another great one - but Eliana is still just better than Cyrus.
Bottom 3:

They had Amber, Eliana, Dareian and Brandon all do solos. Of course they cut Brandon and Amber. I was so surprised to see George and Eliana in the bottom.
Cut for the Olympics - which were awesome! Go USA!
Tonight was a Mia Michaels tribute. Also Nap/Tabs had their baby - yay!
This was a really weird episode for me. Of course I've seen all of these Mia routines - there are some that I have the routine almost memorized because I've watched them so often. So I wasn't sure what to expect..
Top 14 Group: This one was pretty good - I liked the flying around on the ropes. Always hard to tell who is who though..
Cyrus/Eliana (Mercy): Awesome routine originally done by Katee/Twitch. The pairing makes sense for this. I thought it was done pretty well - liked some of the added bits that Cyrus did. I think Katee danced it a bit more manic though.
George/Tiffany (Hometown Glory) : Original done by Katee/Joshua. Kind of surprised they re-did this one. It was interesting to see two contemp dancers doing it though - but I had thought Joshua did it really well the first time anyway. The assisted run wasn't as awesome as I remember though.
Amelia/Will (The Butt routine): Original done by Randi/Evan. I'm surprised that had Amelia do this one - I can totally see Will fitting into Evan's role, but I just couldn't get over how skinny she was compared to Randi. It just didn't work as well for me.
Janelle/Dareian (Broken Heart) : Original done by Twitch/Kherington. Eh...I thought Dareian pulled it off better than Janelle. I hadn't noticed how much shorter they were until Mia said she had to change it up some for them. When they were judging it was weird they said that Janelle didn't have much to do - but I feel like I remember Kherington in it much more or maybe she just stood out so much better. Not a fan of these guest judges. Yes I get that you haven't seen the show so it's easier to judge the routines but - it was annoying having them not know names and stuff.
Audrey/Matthew (Time): Original done by Neil/Lacey. Eh - again not as good. I thought she did better than him... Not a fan of Nigel basically grilling them on Mia's life. I felt bad for Matthew cuz it did seem like he wanted to do it perfect for Mia. He looked either pissed or just upset when they were judging him.
Witney/Chehon (Calling You - aka The Bench routine): Original done by Heidi/Travis. Hard to top the original but I think out of most of the routines of the night, they did really well. Interesting that both Heidi and Witney are ballroom dancers. Again with Nigel spilling some of Mia's life to the world. It does make it interesting at least in terms of Travis and Heidi since Travis is gay (not sure about Chehon)
Lindsay/Cole (Addiction) : Original done by Kayla/Kupono. This is probably my favorite Mia routine. The judges said they did really well but I've seen the original too many times to see it again with two different dancers. I didn't like how Cole portrayed the addiction and for some reason - there was something off about Lindsay. I did notice she couldn't get into some of the same poses as Kayla. It kind of ruined it a little for me. After I saw it - I went and watched the original - it still gets me every time I see it. I think they did well but nothing will ever be as good as Kayla and Kupono's version of it..
Bottom 3: (this week they were only saving 1 since 2 of each would be going home - this is also where they were deciding the top 10)

Had everyone dance their solos - really liked Dareian's and George's. They ended up saving Lindsay and George - kind of expected.
My predictions for bottom next week..this is really hard..
