Short story: muscle relaxant + sleeping pill = best night's sleep of my life
I've had some really bad jaw pain recently, which coupled with the chronic neck and shoulder spasms to give me the worst tension headache of my life. For about three weeks. (The sinus infection has been an unexpected bonus.) All I could think about was how much everything hurt and trying to rub out the tension and force myself to relax and mope when nothing worked. I started browsing muscle relaxants online and reading about the side effects and daydreaming about temporary paralysis because at that point it sounded really, really good to not be able to move or tense up.
Which led me to think that maybe, just maybe, I was in enough pain to officially stop "sucking it up" and make an appointment with my doctor. (My awesome doctor that actually listens to me and doesn't assume that I'm just out to get high. While I accept and try to enjoy the consequences of prescription drugs, I'd really rather not have to take them at all. Codeine can be fun; not being in pain is so much better.)
He gave me Flexeril to take at bedtime and said I'd feel it right away but the full effects wouldn't be felt for about 2 weeks. I asked if it would have any negative interactions with the Imovane I take for sleeping and he said if anything it'd make it more potent.
(As I've taken to doubling up the dosage due to a gradual erosion of efficacy, I could only say "Bonus.")
Potent was probably the right word, from a technical standpoint. I'm leading more towards GLORIOUS myself. I've been able to keep a sleep schedule for FOUR DAYS straight, I've been waking up before my alarm feeling refreshed, and while the jaw/neck/shoulder pain hasn't subsided completely, there has been remarkable improvement. I haven't felt this alert and clearheaded in years.
Better living through chemistry, I has it!
