well.. my dad is out of town on a sleep-over with uncle dude at uncle dudes summer place..
thus my step-mom and I are headed out for dinner.. 'choice up to me'
I keep pointing out that there really isn't any place around here that interests me..
its the boonies.. I don't have stop in at each and ever mediocre restaraunt to find out that their menus are lame and their food is bland and uninteresting..
after years of living in the boonies.. its not a far stretch to make the assumption that the food is going to reletivly suck.
its true, I have not yet seen every restaraunt they have to offer.. (something she pointed out)
yet the bulk of those are burger joints and steak houses, I am not sure how many times I have to state the fact that I don't really like red meat and that till I lived here, I rarely ever ate it.
thus.. I am at a loss as to what to 'choose'.. steakhouse, steakhouse, bland 'homestyle', crappy mexican (both bland and nausiating), and middling chinese. I can point out that I love sushi and ethnic dishes.. using Andrew Zimmern and Andrew Bourdain as examples of what I would and do enjoy..
these concepts are utterly alien..
I need to find a nix-latin to old-people dictionary so that I could properly express myself.. but since 90% of what I do say is either forgotten or ignored I rarely ever express anything.
such as OddCon.. here (or to friends) it was basically a multipage rant on how awesome it was..
to my parents.. it was 'fine'
after years of condescending and patronizing attitudes I have basically given up on sharing anything in my life with family since I am basically the only geek..
This isn't a rant where I am annoyed.. or pissed.. I'm simply indifferent..
they know that food is something that is important to me, but there isn't anyway to express this here..
its a barren wasteland of awesome taste (except for cheese.. there is lots of cheese)..
the food can be filing, nourishing, and slightly tasty.. there isn't anything exceptional
now, I have seen many restaruants in Madison that look good.. but driving over two hours for a meal is a bit ludicrous (I also use this arguement for going out to movies.. I just can't bring myself to driving over an hour to sit in a crappy theater)
eh.. I figure we'll go out for the Ameri-Chinese place.. hopefully it'll be a buffet so I can gorge
