World Ballet Day 2014

Oct 01, 2014 18:55

Today is World Ballet Day and 5 World class ballet companies will be live streaming classes, rehearsals and behind the scenes excerpts over a period of 20 hours from Melbourne, Moscow, London to Toronto and San Francisco. The participating companies are The Australian Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, The Royal Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada, and the San Francisco Ballet. I didn’t stay up late to watch Australia, Britain and Russia participate although I wish I could have but thankfully they’re going to put up all the feeds for them on YouTube for the next few days so I’ll be able to watch them. I love ballet. When I was little I wanted to take classes but sadly we couldn’t afford it. Over lunch I watched the National Ballet of Canada and a little bit from San Francisco feeds live. The National Ballet can only be described as grace, beauty and talent combined. I loved the Madams, Mistresses and Harlot’s rehearsal number from Kenneth McMillan’s Manon (performances begin November 2014). I hope they do this annually - I’d love to take the day off next year just to be able to watch it ALL live.
