Digital Film Festival January 31 - February 6, 2014

As February rolls around so does the annual Digital Film Festival. This year some of my top 5 fav films of all time were featured.

First up is the original Battlestar Galactica. I can still remember almost every detail of this film. When I saw it as a child, Apollo was one of the characters I found most endearing because he had that cross between lost soul and warrior. Starbuck (Dirk Benedict and Josh Holloway separated at birth) was the bad boy who you didn’t quite trust yourself to hang out with for fear of getting into more trouble than you can handle. Watching it again from an adult perspective Starbuck just makes me laugh and Apollo is overly sweet. The movie still holds a special place in my heart.

Next comes Logan’s Run. Logan is still my type after all these years. Blonde and pretty. I will never tire of this movie and influenced most of my sci-fi writing as a child. You can say it left a lasting impression. I have a copy of the novel when the movie came out but I’d love a copy with the original 1967 cover as mine has the movie cover on it from the 70s and ’70s. It is my hope to one day get Michael York to sign my copy.

Finally, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure is the last on the list this year. I can virtually recite the entire movie and it’s still funny. It should be on every history teacher’s list of movies to get kids interested in the subject matter. Seeing Keanu Reeves takes me back to high school and drama class. Good times.

Looking forward to next year’s festival. I hope some of the films Lady__Croft and I talked about end up as choices for the big screen: Man in the Iron Mask, Singing in the Rain, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (the 70s), Close Encounters, The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Philadelphia Experiment, Pin, Lost Horizon or even The Time Machine (60s), The Man Who Fell to Earth (David Bowie), Rocky Horror Picture Show (not that we haven’t seen it already) etc - the list goes on and on.
