Rise of the Lycans...

Despite the -12 degrees Celsius temperatures including windchills of almost -22  lady__croft and I headed out to watch Underworld: Rise of the Lycans and we were not disappointed. The story of how the werewolves rose out of slavery to begina feud with their former taskmasters the Vampires was reminiscent of Spartacus the Ancient Roman slave revolt complete with allusions to Lucien as a "Messianic" *coughJesuscough* type figure thrown in. It made me chuckle more than once during the film especially since actress Rhona Mitra was in the 1994 movie version as Varinia. Still the movie was good and the actors brought their characters to life especially Bill Nye who took vampire Victor to a whole new level and well Michael Sheen is wonderful as Lucien. The only disappointing part was the love story between Lucien and Victor's daughter Sonja which was referenced during the first Underworld. Here through no fault of actors Sheen and Mitra their characters story got lost somewhere along the way as the werewolves escaped their masters and all we got was a luke warm plot that showed them risking death to sneak off to be together every now and then and their pain when each other was in danger weather from the non-human werewolves or from those they loved that were closest to them. I think here is where the writers just didn't bring it.  Still it is a good story and worth going to see on big screen. My only major complaint was the lack of good looking vampires for me to drool over so I settled for one werewolf in particular who I recognized right off the bat....yes my friends CRAIG PARKER our beloved Darken Raul of The Seeker and Hadir of LOTR makes an appearance as Sabas and I have to say he does the wolf justice. Now go see it...go.
