Well, it's done. I saved the galaxy... again. Somehow, it doesn't get old.

A full review will be forthcoming, though I have some other things on my plate I'm getting out of the way first.

First, a few things, as they come to mind.

Major spoilers ahoy )

I thought it was inevitable that you'd lose at least a few people. I mean, I did get all of the upgrades and loyalty missions and ME1 certainly forced you into losing one character or another (as does DA:O, though in a more roundabout, less lethal manner).

But I am planning on replaying it at some point. I have two more imports from ME1, after all (my uber-paragon LG male vanguard and semi-renegade NE female soldier), and I'm even thinking of starting two others just to get all of the classes.

Yes, I meant Grunt.

And yes, I assigned him as a leader during the second run. Guess I should have stuck with Garrus (who I had leading the team initially).

Funny that sending Mordin back was a good idea. I figured that would be a dangerous mission, so I sent Zaeed instead.

There's certain key "Party member dies" scenes that are quite good, I think. It's just a matter of if they're plugged into the right place. Like, if you don't upgrade your ship and lose people that way. (Like omg, Thane/Garrus 50-50 death because of no Thanix Cannon. I think all the videos of that scene on youtube are of Thane.) Or if you picked an inappropriate specialist or team leader they get their little moment (Mordin's "I held the line" bit is my fav.) If you have them not on Shepard's team and not as a team leader and they die due to lost loyalty, it's kind of cruddy because then it's offscreen.

I got all the upgrades, since it was pretty obvious to me they were going to be critical to surviving the end game. So no problems there. But yeah, I've heard those are more dramatic.

Thing is, none of my party members died from lack of loyalty - I had 100% loyalty for everyone. I guess Grunt got a little moment, but it felt like it was swept under the rug as soon as it was over. Not that I don't understand intellectually - it wasn't exactly the time to get all remorseful and weepy and Grunt isn't the kind of character who inspires a lot of affection, but it still felt weird to me.

Yeah, I'm really hoping that if they survived that we get at least some of our squad, if not all of the squad back for the next game (and that Zaeed and Kitsume both get freaking dialogue wheels). I don't want to build a third team with all new characters. I want to have Kaiden, Garrus, Mordin, Jack, Samara and the rest of the survivors back, dammit.

I've made a dude!Shepard in order to romance both Ashley (who I've never managed not to drop a nuke on) and Tali, but I'm playing him through ME1 now, and even though he's a paragon he's kind of a douchebag. And he also seems to like dysfunctional relationships so he's going after Liara. I suspect when he gets to ME2 he'll chase after Jack because he seems like the kind of guy that wants to fix women. I hate my brain.

Good luck over on the bioboards. They're pretty much a cesspool. You might want to check out the masseffect community here on LJ. It's pretty drama free, doesn't have all of the bullshit misogamy and has some cool discussions.

Well it seems like it's getting pretty crowded... nivenus April 12 2010, 19:03:51 UTC
I feel like building a third team in ME3 would be both needlessly redundant and anticlimatic. It works for the second arc, what with Shepard dying and the two years passing and what not, but the third game needs to be a run to the finish - not a switch in tone and circumstances the way the second act was.

I also feel like, frankly, we have more than enough characters at this point. There are already eighteen recruitable party members from ME1 and ME2 combined, along with ten romances. We don't need to expand the character roster any more than we already have. It would be too much, conceptually, I think. Two or three more characters I can see, but another full party. No, I'm quite fine actually ( ... )

What I think BioWare should do is actually let you pick a team from the combined rosters of ME1 and ME2 (disregarding those who've died obviously).Absolutely this. That would be so damn cool. You shouldn't be able to take everyone, but picking and choosing among the survivors and maybe a few noobs? Hell yes. It would also make replaying the games a hell of a lot of fun and make past decisions and mistakes have more weight ( ... )
