Well, it's done. I saved the galaxy... again. Somehow, it doesn't get old.
A full review will be forthcoming, though I have some other things on my plate I'm getting out of the way first.
First, a few things, as they come to mind.
1. Okay, that's one hell of a cool cliff-hanger. I want to kick that reaper fleet's ass.
2. Tali's romance was made of win. Definitely one of BioWare's best. And I'm okay that we didn't see her face (it wasn't really my aim to see it) though, honestly, I hope BioWare actually does show it in ME3.
3. Interesting choice you make at the end regarding the larval reaper. Kind of similar to the DA:O ending actually, as far as its implications are concerned. Wonder how it will play out in the third game? And how's the Illusive Man going to react?
4. I felt like the death scenes for the ones who didn't make it - Mordin and Grunt in my case - were really, really anticlimatic. Not at all like the death scenes for Kaidan/Ashley or Wrex in ME1. Those had emotional impact and, given how much I liked both characters (particularly Mordin) it should have been the same here. It wasn't.
5. Bravo on keeping the game playable after the end. Normally, I don't mind this kind of thing, but ME2 has put so much emphasis on exploration that it would feel weird to just cut it off. Plus, talking to teammates for reactions is for the win.
6. I want an EXPANSION PACK. NOW.
Okay, I'll wait, but really, I want to go party with these guys some more. And that means none of that "let's cut out the party" crap from Awakening or virtually every other expansion pack. Can't we, for once, you know, keep the team we've spent several dozen hours building up?
7. That being said - don't rush Mass Effect 3. ME2 was, in spite of all it's greatness, a little rough around the edges in some places. The last thing I want is for EA and BioWare to rush ME3 out the door by next year, or even 2011. Take your time, guys. Of the two BioWare games released in the past year, DA:O is by far the most polished. Take it as your model. Don't rush this. ME3 can be your best game. Make it so.
I do want it eventually though, and damn straight I'm going to import my characters.
Well, that's it for now. Now it's time to go get lost in the BioWare forums.
