Observation:

Lately, I've been engaging in the gentle (and sometimes not-so-gentle) art of written self-defense on-line. I find it interesting that behavior in on-line communities which is considered acceptable when others engage in it, causes shocked outrage and insults to be hurled at me when I do it. Double standards are so very interesting and amusing--and frankly, a whole lot of bullshit. If everyone else can be an asshole with impunity, guess what, I can be one too.

Don't mistake my (too this point) nice guy demeanor, silence on any particular issue, or apparent passivity as weakness. Consider instead that I'm not really interested in rehashing a topic or even not interested in talking about it at all. If I blow you off, it's because I'm not here to placate your whims and desires, but to pursue my own interests and agenda. I've just gotten to the point where I question the value of being polite to people who have shown consistently that they lack politeness. There comes a time when one says, "enough is enough."
