It was the gunfire that drew Kanda out. It had steadily gotten quieter and quieter over the last few months, and to be honest? It was starting to scare him a little. It didn't bother him before, since when he first got here it was just as quiet as it was now. But after seeing the place get a little livelier, seeing people from home more than once, people he knew that remembered him more than once ( ... )

Yukio had pulled out his second weapon by the time Kanda arrived, calmly firing shot after shot at the concrete wall in front of him. There was no target drawn, but one had to imagine he had one in mind, seeing the close groupings of white powder. The boy was obviously a professional.

He noticed Kanda when he stopped to reload, sliding out a magazine so he could slip in a new one, and he pushed his current mindframe aside so he could offer the other a small smile.

"Hello, Kanda-san."

Kanda just watched, watched as Yukio shot at his imaginary target, watched as he moved to switch out the clips. When he was greeted, Kanda simply gave a nod first before speaking.

"Hey. Can I guess you're imagining a certain little girl on the other side?"

"You certainly could." Yukio replaced a clips, slamming it into the gun just a bit harder than necessary as if to confirm that fact further.

Libitina was at fault for their situation, for taking his father again, and for all his experience and education, there was nothing Yukio could do about this particular "ghost". Hell, he couldn't even get a bead on her, let alone attempt to settle things.

"She makes for a very good target."

Kanda couldn't help but snort at that. It probably wouldn't be too hard to figure out that Kanda wasn't really himself, even if someone didn't know him that well. The population has never been very big, it wouldn't be hard to miss that kind of observation.

"She certainly does, doesn't she." Slicing up the little ghosty girl sounded like a good idea. It beat taking it out on dead trees.

He had seen enough of Kanda on the network to know that even this simple conversation was outside of the man's normal comfort zone. He just didn't seem the social type.

"It's a shame she won't provide us with a proper chance."

Yeeeeah, no way was he social at all. At least not by choice like this. But at least there's...just a little less quiet this way?

"There'd be a line if she did, I'm sure."

He leveled his weapon at the wall again, frowning down the line of the sight.

"... I wonder if she really is a ghost."

Kanda shifted against the tree, resting his back against it instead of leaning against it with a shoulder.

"What makes you say that?"

"Where I come from, ghosts can't wield that sort of power. They're a part of the lowest level of demons."

Okay, that's...different. Definitely something he's never heard of before.

"What are your demons like?"

Yukio lowered his weapon and turned to face Kanda, an empty sort of smile on is face.

"I spoke to Allen-san about it once. According to him, the demons I'm used to would be considered "demons of lore" for you."

Though they would be considered lore for most people from Yukio's world as well, but he's special that way.

Demons...of lore... Kanda couldn't help but squint at that. What lore? Usually when Kanda hears of something unnatural, the cause being Innocence is more likely than anything.

"Demons of lore.... Right." Clearly that went over Kanda's head.

He sighed lightly. Obviously he would have to approach this as if he were teaching Rin.

"Demons live on a plane all their own, adjacent to the plane humans live on. Normally they can't cross over on their own, but they can manage it by possessing materials in our world. Anything from dust to plants to humans, but most people believe any strange occurrences to be simply the act of legendary spirits or gods."

He stopped, looking to see if Kanda was following.

Just this face, Yukio. Just this face. He...kinda got it. It made a little sense at least.

"Your demons have nothing to do with grief or sorrow then." Oh how he was glad there wasn't any Millennium Earl here.

"They're often drawn to it, along with other suppressed feelings, but they're not the same as your akuma."

He ejected the magazine from his gun and started stowing his weapons away as he talked.

"Allen-san wouldn't tell me very much about them."
