While walking to the horse stable, to feed carrots to the horse, Shuurei is thinking about all that has happened that day.
(The one that Seiga is waiting for is.. Shun.. that means..)
Undoubtedly, Shun is the assassin that Shuurei and Seiga are trying to track down. At the very least, he must have some kind of connection with the assassin. That line of reasoning makes Shuurei felt down, because somehow she already felt close to Shun. Nonetheless..
“I am a ghost. One of the ‘ghost in the prison’.”
If his words implied to what Shuurei had been thinking of, it would mean that several documents that she has been looking through during her investigation together with Suou, are bearing greater importance than what she had thought beforehand..
(…is that the reason of Seiga’s involvement in this case? But..)
At the moment, prison related matter has been handed over under Shuurei’s supervision. No matter how good Seiga is, it is doubtful that he could come into the same conclusion without any backups. Shun’s word can be considered as Shuurei’s trump card. Most likely, Seiga has no knowledge of it.
However, obviously Seiga also had information unknown to Shuurei. That information must be more than Shuurei currently had in hand.
(One of them is the information related to Shun-san. However, there are parts that Seiga still cannot comprehend, which is why he used me as bait.)
For example, the outer appearance. Shun’s appearance is very conspicuous, yet, Seiga did not mention a word of it.
And, there may be others who are also investigating on Shun. On that point, Ran Shogun came in. Whether it came from Shuurei’s side or Shun’s, without that information, there is no way he could come at that crucial moment. When Seiga learnt out that it is Ran Shogun who is chasing after Shun, he laughed. For Seiga, that fact must be of some importance.
However, Shuurei felt that the puzzle is still lack of something. She felt as if there is something she is not yet aware of. Obviously, it is something that Seiga know, while Shuurei do not.
Still deep in her mind, Shuurei arrives at the stable. In the imperial residence, there is also a small horse stable.
Shuurei feed the horse with carrot. Only one carrot, so it would not get too fat.
“..it may look cute.”
Shuurei pats the horse that come closer to her, she felt comfortable. She felt that she could understand a little bit of Juusan-hime’s feeling.
“I want to be a horse.”
Hearing that murmuring voice from behind, Shuurei laughs and turns her back to face the owner of the voice.
“Ah, then you’re the same as Juusan-hime, eh, Ryuuki.”
When she turns around, her eyes catch a glimpse of square wedge.
“Shall we watch the stars?”
Shuurei starts to walk. Ryuuki is following close behind her.
Somehow it felt nostalgic to Shuurei. It was just like when the first time they met. That time, it was Shuurei who is always walked in front, and Ryuuki following right behind her. When she left the imperial residence, Ryuuki had walked far in front of her. The day, when she can actually catch up to him.. will such a day eventually come..
The two of them sit in the wedge. The wedge’s stone felt cold. When one’s looking up, the vast night sky is glittering with the summer’s stars. Ryuuki does not look up. He kept look downward.
“…if you congratulate me, I will get mad.”
“I won’t.”
Desperately, Ryuuki trying to ask something that has been bothering him.
“Did you feel even a slightest bit je je je jealous?”
“Well..”
Shuurei thinks for a while. And then, she replies honestly.
“..maybe, I did feel jealous a little bit. When I heard that Juusan-hime came, I felt uneasy.”
“Really!?”
“Yes. Well.. I think I will get jealous as well, when Seiran get married.”
Ryuuki felt weird. However, that is what Shuurei truly felt. And when he thinks of it, Ryuuki felt that he might also get jealous if Seiran married to an unknown girl other than Shuurei.
“..but, if he found happiness with his wife, I will try my best to be happy for them, from the bottom of my heart.”
That’s it. What Ryuuki felt for Seiran is not ‘love’ (koi). Nevertheless, he likes (ai) Seiran more than anyone, and Seiran is an important person for him, an irreplaceable one. It is just like what Ryuuki and Seiran meant for Shuurei.
If Ryuuki had asked the question he had been evading all this time, Shuurei will certainly give him the answer he was expecting for. He does not think that she disliked him. But he also does not think that she loved him. It’s just that Shuurei never labelled the fondness she felt towards others. If she did, the feeling would only bind and drag her. She does not have time to spare for useless emotion, since the day when she obtained her official rank, through ups and downs, until this day, three years after that.
That is why, Shuurei does not put a label on her feeling for Ryuuki. It has to be that way, in order to be able to stay by his side under any circumstances without being swayed over. If she fell in love, separation, attachment, hatred, and jealousy will surely come to follow. In that case, she cannot stay in Ryuuki’s court. She cannot always stay by his side.
That is why, Shuurei will not love Ryuuki. Because she likes him, and he is an important person for her..
…somewhere in his heart, Ryuuki also realizes that fact.
Even so, Shuurei still left him with chances.
Because she knew that he hasn’t give up yet.
“By the way, did Riou-kun come to apologize?”
“Yes.”
Ryuuki thinks back of what had happened that night, and chuckled happily.
When he began to worry over Shusui who had left for some time after accompanied him making embroideries, Riou showed up. Riou told him that Shusui is not feeling well and is resting at her room, and he also apologized.

“..Riou is a nice boy. He was even accompanied me making embroideries.”
“..well, a boy as nice as him is truly rare.”
The sakura patterned cloth that Ryuuki gave him is being carefully kept, together with the straw doll.
“Riou is wonderful. He doesn’t use polite language with me… it has been a long time (since last time I have been treated that way)..”
And his frankness.. Ryuuki never thought that he would have someone as frank as Riou for the second time..
After Shuuei and Kouyuu left his side, Riou came. As a part of Hyou clan’s plan, or something like that. That night they spent at the archives was, undoubtedly, comforted his heart. Nevertheless, it cannot cover something, another kind of loneliness that he felt.
A person can never be a replacement for another person.
“Hey, Ryuuki.. I have heard that Ran Shogun is taking several days off. What about Kouyuu-sama?”
“It seems that there is weird rumour spreading around, but Kouyuu is just simply very busy right now.”
Because Shuurei’s uncle does not do his works. Ryuuki added that fact silently to himself.
“If you’re lonely, why don’t you go and visit him yourself?”
At that unexpected remark, Ryuuki stared at Shuurei. ..go and visit?
“…but.. Kouyuu is really busy. If I disturb him, he might get mad."
“Then, you should apologize and return home. Just like when you come to see me. You just appear in front of me without any further thinking, right?”
“…when I think of it.. that’s right.”
With Shuuei’s being absence, it must be very difficult for Kouyuu to reach Ryuuki’s office.
“Why don’t you go right now?”
“Right now?”
“You can always see me anytime you want, right? If you call for me, I will definitely come.”
Ryuuki laughed. Just like that time when they had breakfast in the archives together with Riou, eventhough he didn’t call for her, she still comes.
“..right. You’re right.”
Shuurei looked up to the starry sky. The night sky was looked like a jewellery box, which contents is being scattered all over.
“Ran Shogun said that he likes you.”
“I know.”
Shuurei chuckled. That is right. There is no way that Ryuuki didn’t know about it.
“…by the way, I have been curious since this noon. Are you really alright with that?”
Ryuuki raised his brows while looking back at the Tousenguu (桃仙宮). Shuurei tilted her head.
“What?”
“What I’m saying is..”
At that unexpected thing that Ryuuki said, Shuurei’s eyes widely opened.
Something Seiga knew that Shuurei didn’t. At this moment, she felt like she knew one of that something.

Kouyuu, who is still working at the Assistant to the Senior Secretary of Civil Affair Department’s office, looked up when he heard knocking sound on the window. The work at the Civil Affair Departement has been almost done with, only Kouyuu himself remained at the office. At the face that popped out from the window and the carefree hand that waved at him, Kouyuu opened his mouth and readily shouted in anger.
“I..”
When Kouyuu is about to yell, he felt at loss and somehow, cannot help himself for not laughing. When he opened the window, he found Ryuuki that looked at him nervously. There is a bottle of sake in his hand, an opened bottle of sake.
“..I was told that if I’m disturbing you, I should just head back.”
“Shuurei told you that?”
Kouyuu laughed when Ryuuki nods.
“Shuurei can be a good assistant for you. Come on in.”
“Eh?”
“I suppose I have some time to spare to drink a cup or two. Well, right now, I think it's time to take a break for a while.”
Ryuuki’s face lightened up.
“For unknown reason, Kan-shousho who was happened to passing by, give this to me. …he said, ‘sorry'. What did he meant by that?”
Somehow, Kouyuu felt like he knew what has been going on. ..first of all, Yuushun has conquered the Civil Construction Departement.
With a thin smile in his lip, he snapped at Ryuuki’s forehead.
“Well, we should gratefully drink it. ..dillute it a little bit…”

What follows this scene would be Shuurei and TanTan’s conversation about their case and Anjuu’s visit. The scene between Anjuu, Shuurei, one and a slice of peaches is interesting ^^ Maybe I should do that.. as well…?
