More in the way of food

My spice/herb drawer is starting to feel slightly respectable. I have fourteen or so items in there, but that does include two jars of ground cumin and one bag of cumin seeds, plus ground cinnamon and cinnamon sticks. Think that's all the duplicates so far. High-ish on my list to get are things like whole allspice, whole cloves, ground cloves, star anise, fresh bay leaves and ideally, I would like a fresh herb garden as well. If my housemates don't object, I might keep trying to grow the little supermarket pots of thyme and coriander I bought recently on the windowsill.

I ended up ordering some of the Mexican flavours that I wanted over the internet and they arrived yesterday: 200g dried chipotle chillis and 100g anchiote paste. The chipotle chillis are waiting until I have enough time and jars to make chipotle en adobo, but I used the anchiote paste tonight.

Have done my usual of making far too much marinade for the meat and using the marinade anyway. So I have my pork neck of under 3kg marinading overnight in a lot of mariande, with some mariande reserved for something else (apparently it does freeze). I will put it in the oven when I get home tomorrow for three to four hours, until the pork is soft and tender. Eventually it will get eaten, probably on Friday night, along with some other stuff. So going to have leftovers! I only finished the black bean-less stew and rice for lunch today!

I really must cook one of the pork roasts I have in the freezer so I have room to freeze other things. Probably shouldn't have bought the neck in the first place, but oh well.

Plan to be in the rest of the evenings this week. I can catch up on useful things like ironing and maybe do some crossstitch. Currently reading Ringworld which so far seems more of a vehicle for cool!science/technology than interesting characters; very much a product of it's time (I'm reading it for the LOTNA bookclub on Saturday).
