Seriously, I'm more interested in the election than the event that cannot be named because of MEMA

I actually went to ultimate practice this morning (for the first time since the last outdoor season). Had to relearn all the old skills of throwing into the wind, throwing with the wind, and how to cut and stack. mashugenah ran a couple of drills and explained thoroughly how a vertical stack works. It makes sense in my head; actually putting it into practice is the challenging part! Still, it was good to get outside and run around for a bit.

I then spent the rest of the afternoon alternately reading and cooking. purplesparkler gave me a book of vegan cookie recipies for my birthday, so I made a batch of chewy chocolate cookies. They have rolled oats and chocolate chips in them and loads of cocoa. They tasted excellent. Unfortunately, the bottle of almond essence was new, so I got probably twice as much almond essence as I needed in the dough (still only 1/2 a teaspoon) and I can really taste it. Next time, 1/4 tsp only (or miss it out altogether).

I also made dinner - pork belly cooked the Italian way in milk, with crackling, on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes with sliced carrot and some spinach leaves. I finished the crackling off under a hot grill, and it spent a minute or two too long underneath, but wasn't too black. And hey, actual crackling. The pork was delightfully tender and I really enjoyed it.

It's Labour Day on Monday, which is awesome because it's a long weekend and I get to sleep in. It's also kinda scary because there's two months today until Christmas!

The Tempering of Men by Sarah Monette and Elizabeth Bear has come in for me at the library and I shall collect it after church tomorrow. If it's fine later on, I might try to weed the garden so we can put some more herbs in or something. The garlic I planted a few months ago seems to be doing well.

I love winter, but I'm really enjoying spring.
