Previous chapters She had been so wrapped up in the high of the kill that she didn't notice being watched at first. Angel, Spike and Gunn had dragged her in whooping loudly and retelling this or that great moment in the fight. She had preened at the compliments being thrown her way and the grin was wide on her face as her eyes connected with a different shade of dark brown. Faith froze and her arms fell limply to her sides. Cordelia. Wow, instant brain meltdown. Faith was sure it was some kind of record. The dark Slayer didn't hear Angel's last remark as she headed for the tall seer.
For a minute she couldn't speak, the scent of Cordelia filling her nose so completely she thought she'd died and gone to heaven. Faith mentally smacked herself. “Hello,” she finally croaked. A radiant smile answered her greeting. “Hi. Welcome back.” The sound of Cordelia's husky voice sent shivers down Faith's spine. Huh, imagine that. “So you've kicked some butt today?” Back on familiar turf, Faith made a grand gesture towards the men nearby. “Me and my brave fellow knights have defended the world from darkness once more!” The tall brunette laughed freely at this and Faith found herself grinning like an idiot. Quite possibly one on drugs. “Good! We should celebrate then, Lorne's having this thing at The Crack, you know, the new club two blocks down? It should be fantastic!” Sounds of approval went up all around at the idea of partying after a hard day's work. Angel shot Faith a funny look, but she put that down to fatigue and general broodiness before announcing her need for a hot shower and a thorough clean before heading out to the club.
One steaming hot shower and three outfits later, Faith was staring dejectedly at her closet for inspiration. Damned, when had it gotten so hard to dress up for a night out? The back of her mind kindly reminded her that she only had issues because she kept thinking of what Cordelia would have to say about her outfit, but she quickly brushed those thoughts aside. Finally selecting a pair of tight black jeans and a low-cut dark red top, she slipped on a pair of comfy heels and headed out the door.
The sight of Faith coming down the stairs had Cordelia's mouth go completely dry. The skinny black jeans accentuated every curve of her strong muscles and the top, though classy and simple, picked up on her gorgeous pert breasts and slim waist line. The tiny bit of skin revealed between the top and the jeans made her heart race. Faith's elegant high heels added a scintillating sway to the dark Slayer's hips as she casually sauntered down the steps. Realizing she was probably gaping like a fish, she quickly snapped her mouth shut and turned her attention to Angel and Spike, who were once again bickering over cars.
“For the last time: I am not taking the Viper out tonight, Spike. There's not enough room for all of us and I refuse to have it stolen just because you 'want to arrive in style'.” Angel made exaggerated quoting signs in the air. Before his Childe could utter another word, he added another decisive “No!” before telling his receptionist he needed the keys to the van. Spike, only arguing with his Progenitor because it amused him, had already turned his eyes to Faith and let out a low whistle as he took in her appearance. “Bloody hell, luv, how many hearts are you lookin' to break tonight?” Faith smiled as the Master Vampire strolled over to place a gentle peck on her cheek. “You look stunning, pet.” With a mischievous look he added, “Finally someone worthy to go partying with!” Angel looked about ready to snap his neck, but the others just filed into the elevator down to the car park. Let the good times roll, Faith thought wistfully.

The Crack was packed to the brim with people and if it hadn't been for Lorne personally coming out to yell at the obstinate bouncer, Faith was pretty sure they never would have gotten in. All of demon society's high and mighty had poured out to celebrate what turned out to be the birthday of one of their elite and were chatting -or rather shouting, as the music was blaring through the speakers- amicably about Devonrel's achievements over the last two centuries. The Slayer was taken aback by the number of humans present at the party, but Lorne explained quickly that as Devonrel was a humanoid type demon he dealt with both sides of society daily. For their part, none of the humans present seemed overly concerned by the strange creatures hiding in the shadows.
The shortage of space meant they were inelegantly escorted to a corner of the VIP area where the group stood closely together while Angel rushed over to the bar to ensure everybody's thirst was quenched asap. Taking in the room around her, Faith decided that it really was a great club, spacious, with a large dance floor and easy access to the ladies. The old industrial factory had been carefully left the way it was, with lots of steel grids and metal walkways to keep the look and feel of a steel-working plant. Plastic sheets allowed for stiletto clad ladies to strut their stuff over the dangerous grilled floors. All the décor in the world couldn't keep her eyes from wandering to the woman standing across from her, though. Cordelia had chosen to wear a deep-blue thigh-length dress that caressed every curve of the beautiful seer's body. The boot neck front allowed for a rather deep cut at the back and Faith had not failed to notice just how close that cut came to the rise of Cordelia's bum. Currently just bobbing her head to the beat, Faith could tell the tall brunette was itching to get moving. Catching the Cordelia's eye, Faith inclined her head towards the dance floor. “Care to join me?”
