It’s time for my bath soon isn’t it I’m sure it is she promised I could get another one today she said it’s better when I’m clean she said I wonder if she’ll give me the nice shampoo that smells of babies today babies smell so nice like my baby he smells nice I wonder where he is what happened to my baby I’m sure he was just there… did I lose my baby… where did baby go?!
Frustrated groans came from the woman on the bed and the machine pumped more sedatives in reaction to her speeding heart. She relaxed a little and followed the stars travelling around on the ceiling tracing their paths at random and smiling to herself. A weird ringing noise entered her brain. She tried to block it out at first, enjoying the pretty lights dancing in front of her eyes. The noise persisted, though, and became hard to ignore.
Putting her bare feet on the plush carpet, she pushed herself off the bed, only marginally aware of the IV as it got pulled from her arm. Dressed in shorts and a tank top, she padded out the bedroom door and into the hallway. The sound became louder as she headed for the Katerina’s reception room. She passed everything on auto-pilot, not even remotely interested in her surroundings as she tried to locate the strange repetitive sound that was now screaming loudly into her head.
She reached and picked up the horn. “Hello?” Why was her throat sore?
Cordelia’s warm welcome to Katerina died on her lips. “Oh my god, Faith, is that you?”
With a shock, the haze cleared in Faith’s head and she gripped the phone tighter.
“Faith, can you hear me?” The voice was faint, but it registered.
“… Cordelia,” she croaked. The voice at the other end faded. “Cordelia?!”

“Faith, can you h - ” The line cracked and then died. Cordelia nearly threw the phone across the room in frustration. Faith was awake! After months of reports from Katerina on how there was no change! And then the connection died. Cordelia quickly redialled, but only got the busy signal. No, no, no! She tried again, suffering the same fate. “Damned!” Her cell phone rang before she had another chance.
“What?!”, she snapped. “Oh, sorry, Angel, I just had a - . You what? I’m on my way!” Rushing out, she scolded the demon world loudly for interrupting. But duty called and she didn’t have time to waste.

Katerina raced into Faith’s bedroom, cursing at herself for having been delayed so much in the city. Those damn meetings didn’t serve a purpose anyway with Faith in her condition. And with the sedatives losing their grip on the powerful Slayer, she couldn’t afford to miss a dose.
The sight of the empty bed made her stagger and almost fall against the door. A door, she realised, that had been open when she got there. She was meticulous about closing the door behind her, every time. “Mikael,” she shouted to the men coming in the back door, “Ilie! Find her!”
She glanced around frantically, searching her mind for the Slayer’s favourite places. Then her eye noticed something a small stain on the carpet. It was reddish brown and she instantly knew what it was. Katerina checked a bit further down the hall and found another reddish spot. A few steps and then another. Hurrying along the track of little blood drops, she kept getting closer and closer to her office. Not needing another sign, she ran straight inside, finding Faith passed out next to her desk, the receiver still in her hand.
A quick scan of the woman’s body revealed that she wasn’t harmed and her calm breathing indicated she was sleeping soundly. Relief flooded Katerina’s mind and she bit back the tears that were pushing to take over. “Mikael! Ilie! In here!”
