Fandom: Buffyverse
Pairing: Faith/Cordelia/Spike
Rating: R
Summary: This is a sequel to Lost and Found, though I suppose you could read it without having read that. The relationship between Faith and Cordelia is settling in nicely, but something seems... off. And Faith seems to know more than she's letting on. *queue drama* However will they handle it?
Disclaimer: Fire bad, tree good.

“You should get some rest, luv.” Spike walked into Faith’s room to find Cordelia firmly posted in the chair next to the young woman’s bed.

“Says the man who has been inseparable from her since the day he carried her in here…”

“Touché.”

The vampire planted himself next to Cordelia. “How are you holding up?”

“I feel awful, like I should’ve done something different. Something that would’ve stopped her from lying there, in that bed…”

Spike couldn’t hide the pain in his eyes as he said: “Well, I was there and I couldn’t do a thing about it.”

“Oh Spike, I didn’t mean it like that!” Cordelia reached for his hand.

“No, no, I know that, luv, it’s alright. I blame myself,’s all.” Without thinking, he placed his hand on hers. “I can’t help thinking I could’ve changed something I did, so I could’ve had her back, the way I usually always do.”

“Yeah.” Cordelia suddenly seemed to notice where her hand was and quickly drew it away, blushing. “Docs all say she’ll be alright, though.” She smiled. “And I should know, I asked every single one.”

“I wouldn’t expect any different from you.”

Cordelia stretched. “Since I know she’ll be safe with you, I think I might take your advice. Go home, shower. Get some rest.”

She hugged him goodbye, trying hard not to cling to Spike as he squeezed her gently. “I’ll stay with her till you come back. Try to get some sleep.”

As Cordelia left the room, he turned his attention to the brunette lying helplessly on the bed.

“I seem to find you like this every time our lives change. It’s not a nice way to tell me things, Faith.” He whispered to the sleeping girl. “You really scared me this time. If you had been anyone else but the Slayer, you wouldn’t have survived the night…

“I never would’ve forgiven myself for that.” He sighed. “You’re the most amazing friend I’ve ever had, I wouldn’t know what to do without you.”

He settled in to watch her for the night. “I love you, you know.”

A brief smile flickered across her lips. Or was that just an illusion? Spike checked again, but Faith seemed sound asleep. So he just stared at her, listening to her heartbeat and watching the rhythmic rise and fall of her chest.

---------------

Cordelia stood under the hot shower, weeping as the soap got rinsed of her body. How did things get so messy? She loved Faith more than anything, but she couldn’t help but feel the butterflies flutter in her stomach every time Spike looked at her. Or when he called her “luv” in that sweet British accent of his.

She got out of the shower, drying herself of hurriedly, before putting on one of Faith’s tops and crawling into bed. She finally relaxed as the vision of her girlfriend carried her off to sleep.

--------------

“You’ve got a good girl there, Faith. You shouldn’t let her go for any money in the world.” Spike said to the sleeping figure in the bed. “She’s got all you could ever want, she’s pretty and she’s smart and she’s got this way to just make you feel comfortable, no matter what.”

He silently contemplated the woman and was amazed to find a lot of hidden memories of Cordelia swarming his mind. The way she walked, the sound of her laughter, the way she looked when she was angry with him, the smell of her hair when she sat next to him in meetings, the gentle way she nuzzled Faith’s neck…

Wait. He shook his head. Where was his mind going to, exactly?

“Yeah, everything you could ever want…” And if that was true, then what could Faith ever want him for?
