This was completely unexpected, but I've written a Smallville one shot. I've always had a weak spot for Lex Luthor in these series. First ever scribble in this fandom. Might do more, probably using this pairing, since I'm not particularly fond of any of the other characters. Except maybe Chloe.
Apparently, I just have a thing for stubborn, strong men with problems expressing any kind of emotion... Must be something from personal experience. :p Anyway, on with it!
Fandom: Smallville
Pairing: Lex/Lana
Rating: R
Summary: Lex and Lana check the Talon's books
Disclaimer: Not mine. Not mine at all.
Lana Lang frowned elegantly as she poured over the books strewn across the table before her. Surely there must have been some mistake, for the Talon to do so poorly was just not possible!
As usual, Lex Luther sat back and observed. He had already spotted the error, but somehow it pleased him more to just watch her solve the riddle than to tell her the anwer. She always found it. He watched her hands as they casually but directly searched through the papers, shoving them this way and that, comparing numbers of bills and totals. He watched her eyes as they flitted across the pages, her gaze going this way and that, joining her hands in their search for the mistake. Then, suddenly, her lips pouted ever so slightly and a radiant smile started spreading across her features. Magnificent, he concluded.
“Thank heavens, I’ve found it!,” she exclaimed, almost forgetting where she was. Looking up at Lex’s startling eyes, she blushed profusely and added, “I forgot to carry the zero, there, you see?” Lex smiled at her, proud that she had once again figured it out, had once again passed one of his more elaborate tests. “Yes, of course, I see now,” he said gently. “I’m not sure I would have found that myself.” Her face lit up again -oh heavens, just for him- as she quipped, “Now that, Lex, I doubt sincerely. You, of course, spotted it right away, you just love to watch me look for it.” He quirked an eyebrow at her quick wit and then laughed freely. “Quite right, Miss Lang, quite right.”
She looked at him again, eyes still alight with her smile, but something else shone in them, too. Lex Luthor was sure he didn’t know what it was. A joy at the sight of him seemed impossible. He was who he was and nobody loved a Luthor. Not even one as magnificent as Lana. And yet, she kept her eyes on him and he almost felt like fidgeting under her gaze. Which, of course, is ridiculous, a Luthor doesn’t fidget. He hardly showed emotion at all. Cold and hard, every one of them. And yet... Everytime this extraordinary woman took but a glance at him, he warmed from the inside of his heart to the lengths of his toes, almost... Almost shy under her gaze, so pure and sweet.
“Now how many times have I told you to call me ‘Lana’, Lex? As we are business partners and you insist I call you by your first name, you should extend that courtesy to me, too, wouldn’t you say?” Gods help him, that smile. “Yes, of course, M... Lana. Though you’ll have to forgive me if I find that hard to do. I do try to keep business and pleasure strictly separated, you see.” “And I would be pleasure in the form of ‘Lana’?,” she said, tauntingly. “Why, Mister Luthor, I might have to stick to your last name then, too.” Her behaviour did nothing to follow her words, as she seemed to be leaning ever closer instead of further away. Lex swallowed hard. Yes, endless pleasure, dear Lana, he could have said, only the words would not pass over his lips. “Well, friends are a part of pleasure, are they not, Lana?” She almost seemed... disappointed by his reply. She sobered up a bit and said: “Yes, of course, Lex, now lets get these books in order, shall we?”
This, tormenting as it might be, had them sitting beside each other, one calculating, the other jotting down the exact figures on paper. Lex cursed himself for not having an accountant to do this. But Lana had insisted that her accounting course was more than sufficient to do the bookkeeping for the Talon, if he’d only double-check the numbers with her every now and then, and here they were, all because he couldn’t refuse the dark-haired beauty anything. Her breath tickled his neck as she gave the numbers to him to be calculated. He deftly punched them into the machine, trying hard to fight the shivers she unknowingly sent down his spine.
It all became too much when she reached over to correct a number herself. Her arm carelessly ran over his and it took all his mental strength not to pull her to him. Instead, he covered her hand with his, holding it over the calculator. He almost entwined their fingers, but decided that putting her hand back where it came from would be a wiser move. He could not, however, keep himself from squeezing her hand before letting go. “Please, leave the numbers to me, I really had intended to correct it,” he uttered weakly. Lana didn’t answer, but merely stared at the place where his hand had touched hers just moments before.
“You know... I always wondered,” she said, her eyes not leaving her hand, “what it was that made you study me the way you do. I had convinced myself that it was purely in your nature to observe.” Her beautiful dark eyes turned to him and he almost gasped at their brilliance. “But somehow, I don’t believe that anymore.” She leaned in, her eyes searching his, begging him not to stop her, and suddenly, her gentle lips touched his. Briefly, hesitantly. He felt something crack inside him. Some wall he had constructed carefully to keep her out. And with its downfall, he reached for her, his hand cupping her cheek, his mouth aching to be touched again. And when they kissed, when they finally kissed, Lex Luthor was free.
