Sometimes, I have the best conversations EVAR with one of my 5th graders.
Whenever I'm not in a class, I'm at my desk, writing. Anything. Everything. Usually bad fanfic. XD;; My kids are continually amazed/scared at seeing someone enjoy filling up pages and pages with ENGLISH. One of the braver girls came up to me and asked what I was doing. I said I was writing a story. And she asked why.
Me:*cringe* Uhh...(lightbulb!) It's for someone!
Her: Oh, is it for your "DARLING"? *grin* (they really use 'darling' in Japan)
Me: ^_^;; I don't have a darling. And I probably never will.
Her: Oh no! You can get married to Donna Summer!
Me: o_O;; WHAT?
Her: You know, a song? Donna Summer?
Me: WHAT??? I'm probably never gonna find a husband. ^_^;; I am teh Dork personified.
Her: *makes fist* FIGHT FIGHT! There's one out there! Like O-sensei!
Me and O-sensei: O_O;;; He's married already!!
Her: Well, someone like him! =^_^=
Me: Are you talking about the singer, Donna Summer?
Her: O_O;;; Nani? *what?*
Me: *gives hug* You're sweet. ♥
Her: *backs away* I think I said too much.
And O-sensei made things even better when he translated her words: 'Otto' and 'Dansen', NOT 'oto' (sound) or 'donna'...she meant husband the whole time. I could not stop laughing, and he joined in too when I told him who Donna Summer was. XD;;
Despite my best efforts, apparently the kids actually have fun when I teach them English. :S Part of me has given up on expecting them to remember anything, Japan being JAPAN. But they will remember...I still don't understand how this happens. XD
At least it's Friday. Sometimes I think my whole time in Japan is to help learn how to enjoy being a dork.
Note to body: Please don't get sick again. I just HAD A COLD 2 weeks ago...and I just STARTED GETTING MY ANKLE BETTER this week. *groan*
