Drawn to scale...

So I fell asleep (there's a shock) but woke up when the doorbell rang with my package delivery. <3  So I staggered down and got it, and then fell back into bed.

Woke up much later, to a truly awesome ("like a hotdog?") thunderstorm, and then I opened the box.  Huzzah!  My ridiculously complicated scale is here! <3 <3 <3

See, my old scale (also a Tanita) was cool, it measured body-fat percentage by bioelectrical impedance, but it also was 5 years old and was giving me a variance of almost 10lbs in consecutive (like, seconds apart) weighings.  This was annoying.  So, with some urging from my mom, I went ahead and used part of my grad money to replace it.

The NEW scale tells me weight, body-fat %, water %, muscle lean weight, bone weight, basal metabolic rate (how many calories my body should burn at rest), a rating of how much visceral fat I have (in my abdomen), my metabolic age (what age average my metabolism's equal to), and a physique rating that's sort of a broad assessment.  Oh, and it's silvery and glass.

It is SO COOL.  OMG.

I now know my current weight to within a pound at most, that I've got actually a heck of a lot of muscle in there, that despite all the water I drink, I'm dehydrated (better step it up...), that the calorie level I've been idly aiming for is slightly lower than my BMR, that I have excess visceral fat (duh) BUT not by much(!), that my metabolism SUCKS ROCKS (so not news), that my bones are just slightly heavier than average (generally positive, implies strength for them), and that my physique rating is 3, "Solidly Built": high fat percentage, but high muscle content too. I was rather pleased, since I'd expected 2 (high fat, average muscle.. "Obese") and this means I'm starting out in a somewhat better position than I thought.  I think I'm gonna aim for 5, "Standard" or 6, "Standard Muscular" as ideal targets -- average fat percentage, average to high muscle content.

So. Damn. Neat.  Gods, I love gadgets.  Now, I've just got to get over my surgery and the ungodly heat/humidity, and find myself some more exercise to get...
