New Music Friday (aka Fresh Friday)

Maybe this would be better on Monays..
New Music Monday sounds better than New Music Friday.

How about
Fresh Fridays?

First up is ROX.
She's like a poor man's Amy Winehouse, on a picnic with corinne bailey rae but wouldn't you know it Duffy has just crept out of a bush and stole the sandwiches.

'My Baby Left me' is the new single from our Amy-Corinne-Duffy clone and it's a good old fashioned feel-good song about being dumped. Wait a minute... shouldn't songs about being dumped be full of misery and melancholy (thank god livejournal stuck a spellchecker in.. cos u know I spelt that wrong). This cheerful upbeat pop tune almost makes you want to be dumped.. just so you can sing along.

Of course... in typical 'Next Big Thing' fashion... her earlier non charting single was even better.
I can't find the video for it on the youtube, maybe she couldn't afford a video, poor Rox, but I did find this video of her doing her shopping in Selfridges and humming it while she shopped --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myASgr8G9cE

luvly!

Next up is Daisy Dares You.
I was a little interested when I first heard about her. Normally 16 year old school girls from Essex just don't do it for me. But her music had a certain twang to it, she cited Karen O and Courtney Love as influences... and her voice reminded me a little bit of 90's act Shampoo crossed with 90's act Lush.

In summer 2009 she sounded like this

Gritty Pop with an indie wannabe edge - I like it.

But since then the evil record company folk have pumped a lot of money into her, changed her style and basically turned her into Pixie Lott V 2.0, out went the guitars and in came robotic synths + Katy Perry style vocals + a cameo from the very over-rated Chipmunk - the end result is just generic, it lacks the rawness of what might have been. On the radio you'd be confused for thinking she's just one of the hasbeens from summer 2009. She's going to be huge but I can't help feel we've heard it all before.

Her debut single is here -->
