Final Fantasy XIII Thoughts as I Near the End...
I have maybe 6 more missions to run before I've done everything that can be done in the game. Well, except for ultimate weapons.
Maybe I'll do that and then go beat the game again. See how easy it would be...
I thought I'd throw out some random thoughts.
I like the game, but it's a bit too linear to my tastes. I love being able to explore the world and go off on a tangent. Or, take a quest, complete it, and then find out that if I went to the Mage's Circle first before Redcliffe, I wouldn't have to kill someone in a dark, bloody ritual to save a kid! [ahem] Sorry... Anyway... (Yes, I actually do like that... It let me see a scene I wouldn't have gotten otherwise.)
So, except for the Archylte Steppe, the world you travel in is pretty much: Go from point A to point B1, or point B2, but there is no wandering between the paths... I like getting lost. I usually end up making lots of money and experience points that way. :)
I was getting near the end of the missions list, wondering where the Tonberries were! Well, I found them. [shudder] In other games, I found Tonberries to be cute. Not in this one! It looks like they lick their knives in between the stabbings they give. [shudder] Creepy!
And, I love the cactaurs... They make the cutest noises when you hit them [beam]. And, one cactaur is worth 5000 CP... Not to shabby!
I did find what I think was the best place to level up. On the Archylte Steppe, Northern High Plain (on the way to Mah'habara), there is a Behemoth King and Megistotherian locked in mortal combat. I have yet to fight them without being able to sneak up on them, even when I run into one or the other right in the face. That's worth 6600 CP. Then, if I run to the wall behind them, then turn around back toward the save point, I notice a single pink dot (meaning enemy) that wasn't there before... It's a cactaur! Woo hoo! So, in less than two minutes, I can make 11600 CP! And, throw in the random times I can sneak up on the Behemoth King nearby for another 4000 CP... ka-ching!!
And, I just noticed today that Behemoth Kings are wearing shorts. Considering the number of times I've run into their butts, I think that might be a good thing... :)
(How would you pronounce Megistotherian anyway?)
Also, I had thought I had found the perfect way to make a ton of CP in Mah'habara... There's a fight along the way with a Boxed Phalanx and two Hoplites. Well... if you kill the Hoplites, the Boxed Phalanx will summon more. Great way to raise CP right? Wrong.
I went through 32 Hoplites before the Boxed Phalanx kicked the bucket. And, I still only got the same amount of CP if I had just killed the original two Hoplites... Bah!
So, no 'cheat' for experience in this game, unlike FFXII... I loved that one... set up the AI, go off and live my life... After about 32 hours of computer controlled play time, all characters were maxed out on everything. Lovely.
