Happy Stabbiversary

Sep 17, 2008 11:59

A little while back, I checked my archive to see that the first day I fenced SCA-style was September 16th of last year, which means that I have now been in/with the SCA and fencing awesome-style for one whole year.

It's been a hell of a year. Sweat and laughter, win and pwnage, steel and silk and linen, needles and bobbins and filk and favors.

I've re-connected with friends, made new friends and turned acquaintances into family. I spent four months with a buckler strapped to my arm to carry my own weight on a line, I was offered membership in a fellowship of l33t StabbX0rs and have found a hobby and a community that will probably last a lifetime.

Fencing does different things for me aesthetically and intellectually than tango, but both let me exercise my mind as well as my body, put to use my kinesthetic intelligence and analytical brain. I'm a geek because I like problem solving or I like problem solving because I'm a geek -- Chicken and Egg. Each fencing match is a puzzle to be solved, look for the openings, play out the possibilities, a mental and physical game of Go (I prefer Go to chess, thanks).

So tonight, I salute all those who helped bring me into the Society and showed me the joy of the stabbity. :)
