"Friday night, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling revealed that Albus Dumbledore, mentor to the world-famous boy wizard and Hogwart's headmaster, is gay. According to AP sources, during a question and answer session before a full house at Carnegie Hall in New York City, Rowling made the surprise revelation when a fan of the books asked the author whether Dumbledore would ever find "true love".
Rowling responded, "Dumbledore is gay."
Some in the audience reportedly gasped while others applauded. The author went on to explain that Dumbledore loved rival wizard Gellert Grindewald who he had long ago vanquished in battle. Said Rowling, "Falling in love can blind us to an extent." She then added, Dumbledore was "horribly, terribly let down" and that his love was his "great tragedy"."
...Really? A lot of the gays are kinda pissed, and I don't blame them. Not that there's anything terribly brave about the subject matter in Harry Potter in the first place (particularly the uber-lame "and then everyone got married" fanfic-esque epilogue), but it seems ridiculously gutless of her to out a major character after the book series is complete and has been out long enough that everyone's already bought and read it. And there's no real indication in the books that Dumbledore is gay; in fact, there's no reference to his relationship with Grindelwald at all until after he is dead. Outing an old-as-the-sea, deceased, completely asexual wizard (who probably never loved again and is in fact a decagenarian virgin) as gay is about as important a revelation as saying that Peeves got it wrong and Mrs. Norris was actually Mr. Norris all along.
