So I woke up extra early this morning, because I figure I'd have a bit of trouble getting to work due to the crazy snow weather. I had parked my car at the top of my street (which is basically two steep hills) so that I could at least not get stuck at the bottom (where I live). I stepped out the house today, shovel in hand and prepared to dig my car out once I got to it, only to fall into the knee-deep snow that has built up on my street. It occurred to me that I might need to dig myself to the car. Thankfully the snow wasn't quite as deep once I got further up the street. At about 8am I got to my car, which looked like this.

I was like "well... shit", and started digging. Managed to get it on the road but couldn't make it up the next hill down he road from where I parked. So I turned round and tried another way, got stuck again. Basically, there is no route to a main road that does not involve going up a significant incline which, in this weather for non-4x4s, is not doable. I saw a lot of 4x4s going by. In fact, I think I was probably the only non-4x4 attempting to travel on the roads. So I abandoned my car on the hillside and decided that today was a not a day where I was going to get to work. I reached for my phone. It was not in my pocket. Or in any of my other pockets. Oh shit. I searched around in the car. It wasn't there. OHSHIT. It figured it must've fell out of my pocket while I was digging my car out. Cursing my shallow coat pockets I ran back to where the car was this morning and dug around in the snow for my phone. I thankfully managed to find it under some snow and it still seemed to be working, so that was a good sign. However, some snow had gotten into the charger/accessory slot on the bottom and looks like it's shorted a connector or two. Basically, my phone keeps thinking there's some weird accessory plugged into it and it keeps telling me that, whatever it is, it does not support charging.

Snow does not support charging on the iphone.

To be honest, I could see the main road from the top of the hill I got stuck going up on and it wasn't really any better than there I got stuck. I didn't see anyone waiting at the bus stops and, coupled with the condition of the road, I presumed the buses weren't running. So I rang work to tell them I wasn't going to make it in (I contemplated walking, but it takes an hour and a half without snow, so fuck that).

Here're some pics of the view from my house under the cut

In other news, I have started dipping my toe into online Starcraft 2. At the moment, all I've been doing is playing people I know. I get trashed by Jay and Alun repeatedly, Kev played me once and immediately closed the game after I beat him (he didn't want a rematch). I did start playing against a guy from work, whom I initially was able to reliably beat but now that he seems to have gotten better it is getting harder lol. I am ok with the opening economy building, droning up, taking a 2nd hatchery (yeah, I play zerg) etc. Just that as soon as I have to think about doing anything else, like attacking/defending an attack, I get completely thrown for a loop and have no idea what to do next, or how to do it well XD I guess I jsut have to practice more.

I've also been playing Assassin's Creed 2, which I've rented for a while now. Might see if I can buy it proper so I can send this one back and get another game sent XD

Right. Think I'll go make some lunch and spend the day playing videogames. Although it sounds like everyone else in my department, in particular those who also live locally, managed to make it in to work. Now I'm worried that I am expected to have made it in today, because everyone else (barring those who have to travel the M1 to get here) did =(

videogames, snow day
