I believe one of the reasons why I seldom update this thing anymore is because a) I can't be arsed, and b) when I can be arsed I'm usually quite content with a short status update on Facebook or something.
So stuff has happened, as of late. My late 360 has finally reached it's final terminus and red-ringed on me. And only on the evening after my exam. I basically thought YES NOW I CAN PLAY VIDEOGAMES WITHOUT REMORSE, but the higher powers of gaming clearly had other plans. Not only that, but when I tried to play Bad Company 2 on my PC I realised my monitor was on the blink. Google seems to point to bad capacitors, which are apparently easily replaced if you're an amateur electrician... so I'll probably be needing a new monitor soon too =/ Though it seems that I'm ok as long as the monitor does not try to change resolution, which is difficult when running a new game which almost never defaults to the one I'm running at.
On the upside, I managed to snag an 360 Elite from Tesco's online store for £184, which includes Halo: ODST and Forza 3. This is a pretty good deal, seeing how most other places are selling the console for £200 +1 game. And, thankfully, I don't need to wait for it to get delivered because I am going to pick it up from in-store tomorrow after work XD Only thing now is that I need a way to transfer my saves from my old 360 hard drive to the new one. Apparently there was an update in April allowing USB memory stick support on the 360, however I have had one account of it not working. I guess I'll find out XD
I went up to Edinburgh 2 weekends ago. I drove up to Newcastle on Friday after work, stayed over with Lauren and then tripped up to Edinburgh from there. Met up with Maz, Tom and other assorted people I know via Lauren. It was a really nice day, and I have some nice pictures that I should probably upload (but am far too lazy to). I climbed up Scot's Monument, and generally pottered about towards and through old town. It was a pretty great day out until the heaven's decided to open up at about 4pm XD This swiftly put an end to our intended plans of going on one of the ghost walks. So we just ended up sitting off at the Slug and Lettuce all evening until people started to head home. It was really cool to see Maz again, 'cos it felt like I hadn't seen her for such a long time =o
Last weekend Lauren came to visit. We went out to Nottingham for Hen's birthday (where I raged and flipped tables at Wetherspoons' utterly retarded proof of age rules, seriously, they are the only chain of pubs I know that take this sort of thing to realms beyond common sense). We ended up hanging out at a place called Spanky van Dykes, which was one of the few establishments not full of football louts blowing on their annoying
horns XD We then went to ASK for a meal at about 9 and then went our separate ways afterwards. Kind of a subdued birthday celebration, really. It was nice though. I suppose we were also quite lucky to find that England didn't lose the match on Saturday, or our trip through town after the meal would have been pretty perilous, I'd imagine (although not losing automatically means you won,
according to some people).
Sunday, we went to a really nice restaurant called No.4 Wood Street. It's like some sort of secret moderately classy restaurant hidden in a central part of Mansfield. Probably one of, if not THE, best place to eat in Mansfield. Lauren and I went with Aron and Ysan and we had a 3-course meal each for £16. I personally had the roast beef sunday lunch as my main meal and I we were all absolutely stuffed by the end of it all XD I don't think any of us ate anything else for the rest of the day. After that we just hung out at my house as per usual.
I spent yesterday (which I took off work) not really doing much. We watched the 2nd new Eva movie and got really confused at how they remixed the events of the original series (as far as I can tell, I think they are trying to focus more on the characters and less on the giant mecha-beatings). I am also very amused at what was shown in the preview of the next one XD
I'm unsure what to do with this coming weekend. I have a choice to go to Liverpool for Barry's birthday/housewarming on Saturday, or I can just stay home. My hesitation stems from the fact that it will most likely be full of people I've not even spoke to for at least a year. I dunno, doesn't it seem awkward to suddenly get back in touch with people who you've been out of contact with for so long? Or is it just me? On the other hand, I would really like to see Kev & Viv, Nick & Maya, Barry, Nat, Laura B and the others again. I suppose I don't want to show up and find out that my connection to these people had been lost to the sands of time. Though, I suppose, if things were as such, I would probably only have myself to blame.
The more I think about it though, the more I feel the positive factors outweigh the negative ones. So I might well end up going. Although my plan B was to stay at home and wash the car, seeing how the weather's going to be nice (and I finally have time to do so). the thing is pretty damned filthy >_>
