Whew!

Well, I've got today mostly off. I'll be going to preview for Frost/Nixon at MVT this evening, but otherwise I don't have anywhere I've got to be. And tomorrow I've got nothing on my calendar. After the last two weeks I've had that is really rather exciting. It's almost like a weekend, except that everybody else is working because it is really Monday and Tuesday.

I've opened one show, Rabbit Hole at HPU, this past Friday night and it is wonderful. Starting with a great script, and continuing that trend all the way down to set dressing and props including actors, costumes, board operators, everybody. Yes, I'm kind of gushy about it but its a really good show. If you're on Oahu you should definitely go see it. Everybody I talked to also said how much they liked the lighting. I'm sure it is at least okay, but I think I must be either getting jaded or too critical because I can't see that the lights are so great. Probably because I've always been my own worst critic. But the washes are even, the cues are subtile and effective, they direct attention without pulling focus and generally do their job well.

On Wednesday night Frost/Nixon opens at MVT. I'm hoping that it can pull itself up to where it needs to be. I've been sent some encouraging e-mail forwards from the director so I'm pretty sure it is moving in the right direction at last, but I'll be anxious to see it tonight. The director also was fine with me not being there for three days but I don't feel like I'm done with it. I still had a full yellow-pad page of notes the last time I watched it. Granted, at this point it is all little nit-picky notes like adjusting times by .5 sec slower or faster, or raising or lowering intensity by 5 and 10%. Stuff that nobody else will notice (well, okay, very few other people) but that will just make the show flow better and make things look a bit better. I'll see how many notes I've got tonight. If it is less than half a page then I'm probably done. If its more then I'll probably go to final preview on Tuesday as well. We'll just have to see.

But, regardless of my Frost/Nixon note status, I'll still have the days mostly free. Which means, of course, that I need to do things like laundry, and cleaning out the trunk of my car which seems to be breeding black sweatshirts, and maybe tidying up my apartment and other domestic tasks of that ilk. I'm looking forward to it. Because starting Wednesday I'm back at Hawaii Theatre as a LD for three separate shows on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
