Better week this week...

... Even if I did get some sad news this evening. More on that later.

Things went better this week. Also wrote my first breaking news story in a while. Glad to see I still have it!

I used the weekend to unwind. Didn't feel terrific Friday nor Saturday- bad eczema flareup, the worst I've had in a while. Felt much better today.

Visited my parents this evening; dad's birthday was yesterday but he and mom had gone out to dinner with longtime friends. It was a nice, relaxing evening, with pizza, episodes of Leverage and one of the best birthday cards for dad ever. When you open the card, you hear snoring sounds which was hilarious enough - and got me to buy the card. But- and I didn't hear this in the store- you leave the card open long enough and you hear this yawn/groan that sounds just like dad! It. Is. SPOOKY! Mom even half joked about when I was able to record it ha ha!

I also am proud of myself- last week for the first time in AGES, I made it swimming four times. Also ran into my Vietnamese family; they are thinking of getting a membership. Hope they do! Also went swimming tonight. It was only for a brief while, not even 15 minutes, but I ran into two friends whom I haven't seen in ages so it was worth it.

Did get some sad news, though. The husband of a friend of mine died. I know he struggled with a heroin addiction and from some of the comments I saw, it looks like he lost his struggle. Wow. He not only leaves a widow who is beside herself with grief but a year-old baby boy who will now never know his father. Just heartbreaking.

The Book Mouse's Book Report
7. The Importance of Being 3, by Lindsay Ward. I am using this book for the "read a book that is less than 100 pages" criteria for the Book Riot challenge. This is a cute picture book, good for a parent to read to a preschooler (as the title suggests) Readers follow a trio of youngsters as they go about their day, counting the number of threes they spy. They draw triangles, count groups of three objects like pigs and kittens and even have some typical preschooler moments such as trying to learn to share. There are a couple of things suggested that I think might have been too advanced for a 3-year-old (listing the three primary colors and writing out A B C). But these are minor quibbles. All in all, there is a lot of energy and charm in this picture book.

Currently reading: Helter Skelter (about a fourth of the way through; I think I'm going to count this towards my 500+ challenge)
