Conestoga 2007

Jul 20, 2007 23:58

I'm in Tulsa for Conestoga 2007, and taking a break to post.  Soon I'll be heading back to the Harry Potter release party.  Can't wait to get my hands on the book.  Must find out what happens to Snape, and if he will be vindicated, as I hope.  *crosses fingers*

Anyway, not a lot happened today.  For a con, it was kind of a slow start for me.  I made it to one panel, hung out with Laurell, Jon, and Charles during Laurell's signing, and went to a dinner for people who had bought the tickets for it.  Didn't stick around for the signing afterward, but went to the concert.  Several people/groups who perform at Ren fests have put on shows tonight, and they're pretty good.  Must check out Queen's Gambit and the Bedlam Bards.  R would like them as Cedric of the Bedlam Bards (it was just him performing tonight) is a huge Firefly/Serenity fan, and wrote several filks about the show.

Laurell gave away some stuff during the Q&A at the dinner.  There was a question about Richard, and how Laurell is able to write him.  She said that Richard is really the most normal of the characters.  He's an ordinary person in an extraordinary situation, and he's fighting it as hard as he can.  Therapy is helping, at this point, but it seems to me that he's going to need it for many years to come at the rate he's going.

Oh, Edward is going to group therapy with Peter and Becca, but he's either hiding a lot of stuff from the therapist, or outright lying.  How much stuff has he done that he definitely wouldn't want to get out.  LOL  Also, Laurell isn't sure if Edward and Donna will get married.  She's says it's very tempting to do because Anita would be standing with Edward, as his friend.  Anita would be at the bachelor's party.  She says that's just too tempting and amusing.  Can you just imagine the hilarity that could ensue?  ;-)

Jason's book is now up to 320+ pages, and it's definitely going to be a full book, not a novella.  Also, he's starting to be stubborn about what he wants.   Laurell and Jon teased us with something she'd just written, but wouldn't tell us any details other than it's surprising.  Based on something else Jason has said in the past, I have a feeling it's something to do with his love life.  Jason is a romantic, wanting to be in love, and maybe he's finally found someone to have that happy life with.  It's about time something good happens to him in this series, as opposed to earlier books where he got vampires rotting on him several times.  Ewwwww!  LOL

Oh, I can't forget this one.  Olaf apparently has a fan club, and it's bothering Laurell.  Kind of scary for her, I think.  Now, I like Olaf as a character because he's so creepy, but I don't fantasize about him.  There is no way he's sexy.  He's the scariest character she has, mainly because he could be real.  Vampires, werewolves, etc are not something I'm going to run into.  Serial killers, though?  That's a good possibility, and Olaf is a big bad scary serial killer.    How did she put it if you were to go on a date with him?  One date, and scary serial killer sex.  That means you wouldn't be around for another date later.  Oh, hell, I screwed that up.  She said it so much better, and my paraphrasing sucks.  LOL

Laurell assured us that Olaf is not going to be redeemed or fixed.  He's too broken.  He can't be fixed.  She thinks he might show up another 2 times, but probably not any more after that.  One day you just know he's going to go too far, and Anita will have to take him out.  I thought he came pretty close to that line in the latest AB book.

Small, but pretty good dealers room here.  I found some fun bumper stickers and t-shirts.  I'll keep mum about the t-shirts for now as some are going to be gifts, and I want to surprise people.  There is one, though, that might appeal to some of my pagan friends.  The dealer said it was a PSA.  it's a wordy explanation of what the pentagram represents and what it doesn't.  Check out http://www.InstantAttitudes.com if you want to check it out.

Anyway, here are some of the bumper stickers that caught my eye:

Eris is my co-pilot.  Loki is my bombardier.
What we REALLY need is a Moment of SCIENCE in the Public Schools!
Ignore your rights and they'll go away.
There is no freedom OF religion without freedom FROM religion.
I get along with God just fine.  It's his fan clubs that I can't stand.
Dog is my co-pilot.    (I just had to get this one as it fits perfectly when Roxy is riding shotgun with me.   She loves to stick her head out the open window, her paws balanced precariously on the armrest.)
Knowledge is power.  Power corrupts.  Study hard.  Be evil.
Guns are for people who can't get their broadswords up!
Who needs drugs?  i go broke buying books!
Cats humor us because they know that their ancestors ate ours.
I have NOT lost my mind.  It's back up on the server.  (and the network is down again....)

And now I'm off to the HP release party.  I'll have the book in my hands in a half hour.  *squeeeeeeeeeee*

cons, conestoga
