quilt excitement

Today I am working on a quilt, which makes me happy. The really exciting part is that, after almost two years of dragging around bits and pieces of the thing, sewing a couple together at a time in between kid-care issues, I am now piecing the big boarders that go around the whole thing! After that all I have to do is add the batting and the muslin and I will get to start the actual QUILTING part! Okay, so I have a long way to go on this still. But at least no more bags full of tricky little pieces! This will be my fourth quilt. The first one is still on our bed (though needing to be safely retired to a nice closet soon), the second one was a crib-sized one for Micah and the third, one for Megan. The current queen-sized one is not the most artistic of them all (just a log-cabin modification), but there is something very homey and warm and sweet about being tucked in beneath a quilt you spent years--and maybe decades(hopefully not!)making.
(If we have any more kids, though, they will probably end up with a quilt made of huge, plainly colored chunks sewn together in straight lines and machine-quilted! he he!)
