Looking At Linoleum Makes Me Want To Have Sex

Been watching the second season of Buffy. About three quarters of the way through now. It starts very slow with lots of routine Monster Of The Week stuff and only really gets going till the two parter 'What's My Line?' Then it really picks up.

  • The season opening nose scene is very cute.
  • "Ripper": everyone is always darker than they seem but its ( Read more... )

Then it really picks up.

I put the pickup at 'Innocence', with occasional standouts before then (notably 'Lie To Me', which is lovely blahblahmoralhorror-cakes). I really don't like 'What's My Line?' much.

I fall on the "I like Spike" side of the fence.

I like Spike, at least up until, ooh, early S6 sometime. I don't like what Spike's presence did to Buffy in later seasons.

Spike's meeting with Angel seem incompatible with the backstory from Angel.

The explanation is apparently that 'sire' refers to any vampire in a given vampire's ancestry. Weak, I know.

Speaking of which I am not looking forward to the appearance of Wesley.

And for good reason.

I like Seth Green and his "who is that girl?" entrance.

Oz is generally awesome. "To the casual observer, it would appear that you're trying to make your friend Xander jealous. And that's a little on the empty side."

Speaking of which is the Seth Green/Bruce Seth Green thing just a coincidence?

Yes.

That big blue bugger looks familar. Did he play another baddie?I'm pretty sure he ( ... )

I was just watching that episode as I was typing (hence the title) and that really is a great line. Great little scene in fact: the build up, that key line and then Willow's response.

Most everyone likes Spike in S2. It's later Spike, when he gets a personality removal/reshuffle that grates. And I assume you're talking about the 'You were my sire, man, my Yoda!' line, which is perfectly fanwankable. The inconsistent pronounciation of AngElus/ANgelus is just something you have to get over...

Big blue bugger, or the Judge, is played by the same guy who played Luke back in Welcome to the Hellmouth and The Harvest. So yes, you've seen Brian Thompson around before.

I also thought Spike knew Angel had a soul - wasn't this in the Boxer Rebellion backstory? Or is my memory playing tricks?

That would be it.

No, in the Boxer Rebellion backstory Angel was trying to act normal (for a vampire) and Spike was probably too wired on Slayer's blood to notice anyway. And I don't think it was mentioned in the WWII backstory either. Although you'd think there might have been gossip...

I think you can argue that there was gossip. In 'School Hard', one of the things Spike says is, "I bet this, uh, tortured thing is an act, right? You're not ... housebroken?"
