goodbye 2011

Dec 31, 2011 18:07

My quote for 2012:

"May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you’re wonderful, and don’t forget to make some art - write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself."
- Neil Gaiman

Thank you for everything you taught me, 2011. Despite the heartbreak, despite the lows, despite the constant disappointment, despite it all... I know it was necessary and I honestly wouldn't change a thing. Everything in its right place.

May we all find whatever it is we're looking for - or at least be one step closer to finding it.

2012, please be kind.

1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
I attended Coachella; I modeled for Wynene and Amanda's portfolios; I shot my first wedding; I had to talk to a detective because a thief stole someone's iPad at work; my house got robbed; I started seeing a chiropractor; I had a brief fling with yoga; I spent Valentine's Day with someone I cared about; I met a DJ off of Twitter and he gave me a giant box of Kinder Buenos; I saw a hypnotherapist; I finally saw DJ Neil Armstrong live; I rode a beach cruiser around Venice Beach; I saw Black Star and grabbed Mos Def's shoe; I went to hell and back.

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I managed to successfully complete a Project 365. I will attempt to do this again for 2012.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Jewel gave birth to baby Leah.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully no.

5. What countries did you visit?
Sadly, none but 2012 will consist of at least ONE out of country trip. Europe 2012, yeah buddy.

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
More traveling. More concerts.

7. What date from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
To be honest, this year was incredibly memorable - for better or worse.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Learning to accept what was, is, and will be. Letting go and being okay with letting go. Surviving my trip to hell and back and coming out stronger than ever.

9. What was your biggest failure?
As disappointing and heartbreaking as things got, I was and am still grateful everything happened the way it did. I can say with the utmost honesty that there were no failures, just lessons learned.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I got sick A LOT this year. I was at the doctor's constantly. From my weird swollen eye to strep to fevers to random scares - thank goodness for health insurance!

11. What was the best thing you bought?
A ticket to Coachella.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
In more recent times, mine.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled?
Whoever robbed my house.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Where it always goes to; clothes, food, gas, bills.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Coachella, Seattle, Venice Beach

16. What song will always remind you of 2011?
"Lemonade" by CocoRosie
"Home" by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros
"In Paris" by Kanye & Jay-Z
"No Hands" by Waka Flocka
"Super Bass" by Nicki Minaj
"Playing House" by Active Child & How To Dress Well
any artist that played @ Coachella this year

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
* happier or sadder? Happier.
* thinner or fatter? I think the same.
* richer or poorer? Richer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Read more books, gone on more adventures

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Letting silly things bother me.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
With my family.

21. What was the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in 2011?
I don't think there was anything terribly embarrassing. Maybe the night @ Elbo Room where I came out of the bathroom with toilet paper stuck on me. Luckily, some random stranger alerted me but I wasn't even embarrassed because I was too intoxicated to care.

22. Did you fall in love in 2011?
I don't think I fell in love necessarily, I think I finally came to terms that love was what I felt for that person.

23. How many one-night stands?
Technically, none.

24. What were your favorite TV programs?
New Girl, Modern Family, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Chelsea Lately

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Absolutely not.

26. What was the best book you read?
Sadly, I didn't read too many books this year. :( But I'd have to say Elizabeth Gilbert's "Eat, Pray, Love."

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Allen Stone. DJ Mitsu The Beats.

28. What did you want and get?
A new camera although the circumstance wasn't ideal - my old one got stolen when my house got broken into.

29. What did you want and not get?
Boys I adored. A new job.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Crazy, Stupid, Love
Friends With Benefits
No Strings Attached
Bridesmaids

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 26; I flew home from Venice Beach the day before. On my actual birthday, I ate cupcakes & I went to get an x-ray of my back done in San Lorenzo. I had the day off from work, so it was really chill.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
If I got the boy? Maybe. But everything happens for a reason.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
Plain & simple, just the way I like it. Lots of dresses, lots of tights, skinny jeans, heels, plain v-necks...

34. What kept you sane?
Nothing; I lost myself countless times. Luckily, I was able to put myself back together.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Zooey Deschanel, Lauren Conrad

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Nothing comes to mind at the moment. Occupy Oakland?

37. Who did you miss?
No one, to be honest. I did my best to reconnect with the people I missed.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
It would be unfair to pick just one because I met so many people this year.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011
* You are responsible for your actions and yours only.
* I refuse to get into anyone's business - I can only offer my unconditional support.
* We are who we are, for better or worse.
* When everything around you is failing, muster up enough courage to believe that everything will work out somehow.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"Then you, you built a wall, a 20 foot wall, so I couldn't see.
But if I get off my knees, I might recall, I'm 20 feet tall."
- Erykah Badu <3
