i've often wondered about a cat's coat-colour being linked to his temperament. in our family we have had many cats over the years and the best, most gentle, laid-back and friendly tend to be the greys while the stripey multi-coloured girls are pains-in-the neck. i was even more convinced when a vet friend actually said, "yeah, grays are the best, tortoise-shelled are bitches." a vet! so i looked online. i found this very interesting, though not medically-based at all, article on it. it seems to match what i think mostly of various colours. the charts at the end are very fun to compare.

and maybe next time i get a cat, and i have always wanted one, i'm getting a short-haired black male.  i've wanted one since i was 12 or so. i was going to name him jacob. and after meeting gau earlier in the year, definitely. he is so mellow and regal all at once. and apparently all short haired blacks are.

this is not to say that how a cat is raised won't affect temperament. even with animals, there's a longstanding question of nurture vs. nature.
