This is insane.
Last year, Clayton County GA school district lost its accreditation- primarily because of an incredibly corrupt elected school board. Losing accreditation affects all kids- especially seniors who find that they will not be accepted to a university or college. This year, as property values fall because people are moving to places where their kids could attend accredited school, and revenue falls which leads to massive staff layoffs, there has been a new budget expense to the tune of $70K on school bus driver uniforms... to prevent terrorists from hijacking school buses.
I'm sorry.. what? 1) In a school district that is suffering as badly as Clayton County, how the HELL can they justify buying uniforms for school bus drivers? Can't money go into staff? better teachers? computers? school books? music instruments? With Clayton County losing students constantly, how will these uniforms actually contribute to saving the schools?
2) Terrorist hijackers in Clayton County. The notion is laughable. There has never been a terrorist threat nor a hijacking of a school bus in Clayton County. Google it if you don't believe me. ...but when a hijacker does happen to come along he/she will most certainly be frightened off by the uniformed drivers.
